Cake treatment
    #1989673 - 10/08/03 10:18 AM (20 years, 4 months ago)

A friend of mine introduced me to this site and also to the possibility of growing shrooms. I recently bought my entire setup and for beginners sake a pre gestated kit. Everyhtings going smoothly and im just researching a full growth for when this one is done. The problem lies in the fact that ive been given conflicting versions of what to do, mainly concerning the treatment of cakes after incubation. Mty friend told me that you have to break the cake up and redistribute it in a growing tray in order for shrooms to grow. Yet in the pf-tek it says (assuming i havent misread it) to just leave the cakes in on their own. Can anyone hazard a guess as to why, i know for a fact that my friends cultures worked out regardless.

You can do it either way, but cakes (PF-Tek) require almost 100% humidity and casings don't. It should all be in the FAQ's on this site.

If you have mycelium in a bag you could just fruit it in the bag, too, if you want.

im assuming by casing you mean redistributing the cakes in a growing bed. If thats what your referring to it sounds like my friends technique is right then, must be a variation of the pf technique

its so irritating im waitng on my student loan to finish buying my equipment. I currently have one chamber that can both incubate and grow but not at the same time i need to buy a purely incuabtory setup so i can have one bact incubating while another grows. Kindof on the subject how much spore solution is it viable to keep in one place if ur using ur own prints eg 2 litres etc
