I've added to the list of Post Extras which appears at the bottom of each post body. When the author of the thread clicks on that, it will ban the poster of that specific post from the thread. They can use the Access List feature to allow the poster back into the thread if they wish.

How strict are the guidelines for "qualifications"?
I've done a bit of this already in my journal entries but I'm by no means a professional, I'm just transcribing what I have in books and sometimes adding supporting evidence (such as links to wikipedia or scholarly.goog).
Does that count? It would give me a reason to trudge through some of those books again and benefit the community in a more visible manner.

Well, I was going to wait until 10 people signed up, but six people is close enough. I'll start posting as soon as I get the time to organize some "lectures". I have a busy couple of weeks ahead of me though, so please bear with me. The first post should definitely be up by the weekend.

Would anyone be interested in general mycology (with a plant pathology bent, my area of experience), biotechnology, or general biochemistry?
I can toss some stuff together if there is any interest for these.

Biochemistry could be a good follow-up to my topic. I can lead into it with organic and then let you take over.
Secondly, I would definitely like to hear what you know about mycology.

This forum should be bumping when all of us college age students go back to college I hope this place will be some place where I can ask hard math questions because I suck at math.

I was also contemplating what might become of the Shroomery. A lot of pot heads turn into smart cats. This place has many veterans lurking around with lots of great information. I like it.

I have experience in growing Cubensis so I don't know much about wood-lovers. I'm thinking of using this method: http://www.shroomery.org/8673/Erics-Guide-To-Cultivating-Psilocybe-Azurescens-Cyanescens
And I am probably going to use a mini-fridge to fruit them in at 50 degrees because I can't wait until winter to do it outside. I'll be mixing my 1/2 pint jars with 3/4 hardwood sawdust and 1/4 wheat bran (or brown rice flour.) After inoculation and colonization of the jars, I will be using a rather deep plastic tub. I will then soak a piece of corrugated cardboard in water that will fit almost completely in the tub. I'll then crush up my substrate and place it into the bottom of the tub and place the corrugated cardboard over the substrate and cover the plastic tub loosely with plastic wrap. After the substrate is colonized I will be placing alder chips to cover the cardboard about 2 inches in height. After the alder chips are colonized with mycelium I will proceed with the fruiting process. I will be placing the tub into a mini-fridge and setting the temperature to about 50 degrees(as close as I can get to 50 anyways.) I'm not sure if they need any sunlight or not but I'll take them out to give them an hour of light each day just in case. If somebody could inform me if they need sunlight or not, that would be great! I will use a spray bottle to mist them with distilled water each day to keep the substrate damp. And hopefully, I will see some shroomies poppin' out in a few weeks!
Is this a good process to go about doing this? How well will it work? Do I need to take them out of the mini-fridge to give them any sunlight during the day or does it matter? As I have no experience with cyanescens. Thanks guys!

I don't really know if it will, but I am attempting something along the lines. I have been trying to study up on them and am taking what I know and putting it to the test. I'll report back in a couple months with what I find out.
-------------------- It would be really nice for a change to see someone actually experiment and then report the results, rather than endless posts about 'will this work?' or 'will that work?' and then arguing about it. Just do it. If you really want to experiment, try something that hasn't already been tried a thousand times. Look in your kitchen, find something silly, and then grow mushrooms on it. It's fun. --RR

It's an interesting signature - something I support. I mean, I support doing experiments. I tried one this past summer and it was an epic fail, but I was able to see all the things I did wrong, and I learned from that. I think it's good to experiment in any field.

So im in a database management class, and I want to build a database that would be helpful to a mushroom farmer/grower.
But im stuck at what fields to create for information...
Growth rate obviously, yield, temps, transfers?, culture age? buyers, sellers, items
any help would be cool

I would just start a thread and log every piece of information you can get.
I think one of the most important things about a log is keeping it organized and clear.
I'll take a look at your posts if you start a thread.
Go for it.

I was thinking of starting a series of threads called "Topics in Neuroscience" with the first topic being psilocybin and the brain where I will explain serotonin circuitry and the mechanisms which are known to be involved with the psychedelic experience.
Would there be interest in such a series?

Any recommendations for a book on Quantum Field Theory
I have a mathematics background and would prefer a book that is more mathematical and less "intuitive"
