Anyone know what the hell this is?! All I found was a stipe, the cap was M.I.A. But this stipe was completely hollow and rubbery, and the bottom half of it had this purple color on the walls. Pretty intense stuff.

The top appeared to have white spores on it but I could be mistaken

That doesn't look like a mushroom almost. I wonder if someone took the cap because they thought it was active. It would be funny if a thread popped up asking if they found an active mushroom cap.

I don't think a person found the cap. This thing was pretty hidden, on a steep hillside behind a tree amongst lots of poison oak. No normal person had any reason to be up there . Must have been a critter of some sort.
Anyway, it was definitely a fungal, the stipe was perfectly in tact when I found it.

Yea. It's not really staining though, they just start out green when young and fade to brown. Apparently they will have a name soon.

I wish
I'm pretty sure this species has been in the works for a while, I'm definitely not the first to find it. I've only found 2 other observations of it on MO though, and my pictures are better
