Sealing myco bags without heat.
    #1985856 - 10/07/03 03:10 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I stole this idea from an oyster grow kit
i bought in a garden center, I like it a lot as its
reusable. Here i used adjustable unit legs, but
you can use any two pieces of tubing, so long as
one fits quite tightly into the other.

The leg before cutting

The cut of piece fits perfectly inside the other, and makes a good
place to hold a tight pollyfill ball

Then the polly fill filter is screwed inside the outer (it was easy to
screw into the correct depth using a flat headed screw driver placed
in the small Hole), this is just a handy thing i noticed about the
materials I'm using here, but isnt 100% needed, you could achive the
same by glueing some gauze to the outers end, and filling upto it with pollyfill,
leaving enougth space for the inner to fit in far enougth.

Make sure its screwed in enougth to allow the outer section
enougth depth

Then the bag is placed throught the inner, and folded over

And sealed inplace by the outer sleeve

The inner and outer stay together as the bag fills
much of the air gap between the threaded outer, and the smooth inner.
Which will create a friction grip.
The thread of the outer also aids in extra grip, but isnt 100% needed,
you can achive the same with too sizes of smooth tube.

The last part can be pluged with more polly fill as and
added filter

Completed and inoculated with azure spawn :]

No heat needed, and reusable. Allows good air exchange, and is
strong enougth to allow the bags to be hung from.

Edited for spelling :] cheers Mr Anno

This is great  It deserves a place in the FAQ.

Shirley: Having an "extra" filter should not matter. I have used bags that had dual filters before, both of them the built in membrane type. They are mostly used in very large bags so you can have air exchange on both ends of the bag.

Original!
But I too have pobs in understanding. Could you please elaborate on how you screw the peace with the polyfilter that far intzo the tube. I cant see how you did it. Neither can i figure out how the outer tube stays on without falling off, as the screw-part is cut off.
cheers,
Henning

The screw thread is quite lose, so its easy to screw it further in
by wedging a flat headed screw driver in the smaller hole at one end, and just screwing it in to the right depth.

The inner and outer stay together as the bag fills
much of the air gap between the threaded outer, and the smooth inner.
Producing a friction grip. As long as you lift the bags from the base of the inner, and not by holding the outer, it its plenty strong enought to be hung from.

Please anyone else ask what bits might have foxed you, so i can edit
the awnsers into the origanal post :]
The thread of the outer also aids in extra grip, but isnt 100% needed, you can achive the same with too sizes of smooth tube.
