Do you think I could sautée up some slugs from outside? Slugs are just snails with no shell.
Even better. This guy is probably psychedelic since he's eating psilocybe mycelium.
Don't eat slugs from outside. For starters, they are full of pesticides and toxins what not. If you do eat them, you have to captivate them for at least a week feeding them organic stuff the entire time till everything else "flushes out"
And whatever you do, don't eat them raw. Apparently there's a brain-eating amoeba that is a common parasite of the household snail. It will eat your brain and you will die within 7 days.
Lastly, I thought that the escargot that people eat are sea slugs? They look and are of the same color as sea slugs. Common household snails are more "slimey" and "gooey" and soft. Sea slugs are harder and of a black color, which is what escargot looks like.

from wikipedia:
Quote:
Escargot (IPA: [ɛs.kaʁ.ɡo], French for snail) is a dish of cooked land snails, usually served as an appetizer in France and in French restaurants. The word escargot is also sometimes applied to the living snails of those species which are commonly eaten in this way.[citation needed]
Not all species of land snail are edible, and many are too small to make it worthwhile to prepare and cook them. Even among the edible species, the palatability of the flesh varies from species to species. In France, the species Helix pomatia is most often eaten. The "petit-gris" Helix aspersa is also eaten, as is Helix lucorum. Several additional species, such as Elona quimperiana, are popular in Europe; see heliciculture.
I googled escargot because it was in that Biggy Smalls song, and I guess I never knew what it meant.

Same, I'd use butter and garlic and salt myself. Never seen it cooked with olive oil. I have seen it cooked different ways in Korean dishes though. They use sea slugs though, not land snails.

I have to admit that I kinda feel bad for you Americans sometimes. You have a serious lack of affordable, available everywhere, cuisines. Burger joints and taco bell took over and everything else it seem to be provided in a fancy restaurant.
Around here, snails are available as an entree pretty much in every decent family restaurant for maybe 10$. Then again I live in the semi french to fully french parts of Canada, so I guess french cuisine is more likely to be present.
Open up your taste buds! The an entire world out there to be tasted!

They're really good I love em. Had em fresh caught in Thailand grilled. US smothers them in garlic and butter, what isn't good in that? They carry parasites must be thoroughly cooked. Oyster shooters anyone?

I did, escargots with butter sauce in a restaurant, with those special thongs, the proper way.
It was surprisingly delicious, really, its not like caviar where it has high status but tastes like the fish cum it is, its something that is actually delicious. I then proceeded to ostrich meat, also a first, which also was quite yummy. It was a good restaurant, nothing super fancy but in good european cuisine tradition.
