Not necessarily. If backpacking, smaller and lighter is generally better. If car camping, then whatever.

If it's just for you. I would say get at least a 3 man tent. Bigger is better though.

Haha 7 person tent and it was perfect for 4. I'm thinking the same size would be nice but I almost want to ge 2 smaller ones so that when I go camping with friends they don't end up crashing with me and my girl. Haha
It was actually not half bad. Held up to 100mph winds while in a tornado. My feet got wet but other than that not much water made it in. My sister wants me to order that one but if there is something better for the price I would rather get it for her.

I got so spoiled living along the Gore Range last year in CO. Basically all summer was just chilling deep in the woodis with friends and coworkers.

Honestly Coleman tents are trash. I mean they hold up well enough but they are not very high quality by any means. Check out some of the tents I linked earlier, they are all pretty good. A 3-person tent is perfect for 2 people.
Few others: http://www.backcountryedge.com/msr-mutha-hubba-2011.aspx http://www.backcountryedge.com/mountain_hardwear-drifter-3-dp.aspx http://www.backcountryedge.com/marmot-limelight-3p-2012.aspx http://www.backcountryedge.com/big_agnes-jack-rabbit-sl-3-2014.aspx http://www.backcountryedge.com/msr-elixir-3.aspx
Coleman tents are only good for "cooler camping" where you park your car right next to your campsite.
Id love to try a good hammock system but I roll around so much I doubt that would work well for me.

Yeah that's the biggest thing with hammocks. You have free air moving underneath you. So expect your sleeping temps to be ~20 degrees colder then if you were sleeping on a mat on the ground, for example. The hammock itself is just nylon with no insulation, so that cold air will suck the heat right out of you constantly, so you need something to block the wind, and some form of insulation. I've found really anything under about 60F you really need some kind of insulation under you, unless you have a good synthetic bag.
If you have a down bag, that makes it even worse.. since there is no insulation with down on the side your weight is on. So you have basically zero insulation on whatever side you are laying on with a down bag. With a synthetic bag, it retains insulation properties with weight on it. Down bag is great for sleeping in a tent...not so great so a hammock.. unless you have some kind of insulation under you.
Closed cell foam pad works great - blocks the wind and provides insulation.. but it makes sleeping in the hammock not as comfortable. And you may not get full coverage with a foam pad. What some people do is cut up other foam pads and attach "wings" to their normal pad with duct tape or whatever to provide more width and coverage for the shoulder / arm area. This will help keep you warm, but it's not as comfortable.
I have heard of people sewing pockets all over the outside of the hammock, and stuffing it with leaves/moss/balled up newspaper/etc etc to act as insulation, but that seems kind of ghetto to me.
But the underquilt is the best, as it doesn't interfere with the inside of the hammock at all, it provides a nice bubble of air and insulation between the inside of the hammock and the cold air. But you will pay around $200 for one. Or if you are crafty and have a spare down bag, you could make your own.
This is what it looks like with an underquilt.. basically makes it a cocoon -
and the gears start turning
thanks man

thought seriously about it
the weight got me though
I bet it is warm though
im down here in the south so I don't need something like that
I use an LC-1 pack though with the aluminum frame
love that thing man
I can take the frame off and strap it to a bale of peat moss and go struttin like tom turkey on Viagra
you don't have to use the entire setup, i hear you on the weight but the bivy, patrol bag, and stuff sack probably only weigh about 5-6 pounds and would be comfortable down to pretty low temperatures. and all that synches down to the size of a small sleeping bag in my stuff sack. the winter bag is just for when it's ugly out. friends have used it and woke up covered in snow in it, dry, and warm/hot inside the sack.
plus, you can't beat the price - mine was only like $110 bucks in excellent condition. everything is heavy duty (being military, always is) - giant zipper, zipper guard, heavy stitching. worth the little bit of extra weight for a solid night of sleep
