So I live in ohio in the river valley. I read the season for psilocybe ovoideocystidiata begins april 15-june15-sometimes late fall. I am new to hunting but i have all the identification indicators for this species saved on my phone for identification. The area i am searching is around a pond with a river running through the woods with multiple streams branching off and merging. Some of the trails are sometimes flooded when the river gets high. My questions are,,1. Approximately how close to the rivers/streams should I focus on? 2. Spores blow in the wind correct? Should I be looking on high ground or low ground? 3. Should I be looking on actual logs?Or do they prefer growing on wood in the ground? Any tips are appreciated. It was snowing and pretty cold today but I went out anyway just to do some scouting. It is warming up tomorrow, (not breaking weather rule i think?) Will this random cold snowy day push the season back much? Thanks again

This thread is pretty helpful! http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/15281044 "Watch out for Galerina Marginata, it grows in the same habitat as ovoids, at the same time of year, and has been called a psilocybe look alike. The gills/ sporeprint are rusty brown though, and they usually grow directly from logs, whereas Ovoids rarely grow directly from logs (pretty much they only grow directly from box elder) and are more likely found in debris." any tips still appreciated.

10-100 ft from water in buried debri usually. Usually smaller debri piece patches. In flat floodplain areas near river/stream. Look near knotweed. But not limited to knotweed
