Salvia leaves falling off
    #1983176 - 10/06/03 04:11 AM (20 years, 6 months ago)

I took my plant inside 2 days ago and a lot of the leaves just started falling off. It started with the smaller leaves, and now the bigger leaves are dropping if you even touch them. The odd thing is that the leaves and plant look healthy, even when they have fallen off. Any ideas what is wrong?

Stress, obviously the environment indoors is a whole lot different (R/H, light, temp) to what's outdoors. I've seen this happen on house plants.

The plant will survive and grow new leaves that will be good in the new environment.

air condition systems cool the ambient by taking water off the air, lowering the RH...

its interesting that its the smaller leaves falling first though. usually the older leaves will start falling off from the bottom. check for bugs?? always hose em off BEFORE  you bring em indoors.
I'll second the stress/RH from the move though. try misting em in the morning for a few days. Next time do what I did..... bring em in earlier.

It's a tropical rainforest inside my house.  :nut:

It's a house.  It gets diffuse indirect sunlight now, it was indeirectly under flouros.  Pretty dry in here, steady temps around 70.

oh the larger ones on the lower parts of the stems are falling off too.  The top new ones seem ok for the most part, but the stems are getting bare.

As long as the root zone survives you'll be ok, it is a perennial. It has grown all season outside? If so, then it should have a good root mass to pull through and green up again. I had several outside all winter -- under eves out of the frost -- and they've come good (now spring).

It has a really nice tight root ball. It was growing great outside all season. Thanks for the cutting neuro! The top leaves are still healthy looking but all the other large leaves fell off. A cutting off the one that all the leaves fell off is pretty much doing fine, but its a lot smaller and only a month or 2 old. Only 3 or 4 leaves fell off that, but it still has some nice big leaves.

Make sure you save those leaves that fall off. Also spray the hell out of them with a spray bottle every chance you get.

start worrying or doing something!
do you have backup cuttings?
might be a good time to take cuts before its gone!
use a dome or make a humidity tent, can't be bad.

Seriously, leaves are still slowly falling off the plant and the new shoots that are growing out are going right to brown. It's in a humidity tent, I mist often, all my non-salvia plants are fine.

you mist often? you must be drowning her and contributing to rotting.
treat it like your other plants, perhaps it should work. =)
