That song was by Country Joe and the Fish, they really don't sound that much like steppenwolfe, but definately a great song. They had quite a few references to pot in their songs. They weren't exactly subtle....
"I like marijuana, I like marijuana, I like marijuana, I sure do like to get stoned!"
"Comin' Into Los Angeles" by Arlo Guthree is about smuggling pot. "It's a Plant" by Keller Williams talks of why pot should be legalized. "Get On Up" by Keller Williams "One Good Spliff" by Ziggy Marley "Legalize Marijuana" by Peter Tosh, but someone's bound to have already named that one... "Sensimillia (Can I Feel Ya)" by Michael Franti and Spearhead "Ganja Babe" by Michael Franti and Spearhead "Panama Red" by Peter Rowan is definately about pot but it uses more metaphor and makes the appearance of being about a guy name Panama Red (as opposed to the strain of pot) and never makes a direct reference to pot. "Gin & Juice" by Snoop Dogg....well really every song by Snoop Dogg.. "Hash Pipe" by Weezer...well it talks about a hash pipe anyway.. "Two Hits and the Joint Turned Brown" by Yonder Mountain String Band "Granny Won't You Smoke Some Marijuana" by Yonder Mountain String Band "Kielbasa" by Tenacious D "City Hall" by Tenacious D "Kyle Quit the Band" by Tenacious D "Boys from Oklahoma" by Cross Canadian Ragweed "Copper Head Road" by Steve Earle
That's all I can think of right now...

Maybe you guys can help me locate a song I downloaded a long time ago and have been trying to find for a while now. It was simply called Marijuana, although it could be called something else. It was a guy with only an acoustic guitar, basically kinda talking through the verses and singing through the chorus. It was really catchy and nice sounding.
Sorry and i know i didnt give much info but i'll be grateful if i can find that song once again.

I believe the Purple Haze strain was only named such as a sort of tribute, I guess, or maybe just because it is a cool name (isn't it of the Blueberry family, the blue and purple weed? makes sense to me...)
Black Sabbath's Sweet Leaf rules all. I'm trying to think of other metal songs out there that really bring it out in the open.. not coming up with any right now.. I guess I will just have to make my own... Peace.

Purple Haze is a strain of weed.but the haze genetics came from the haze brothers in the mid 70's.purple haze wasnt even that great and it came out in the 80's i think not sure much. So Hendrix died in 1970 or 69 cant remember so it was not the purple haze the strain. Purple Haze was one of the first underground batches of LSD in the 60's.It came in tablets.Purple Haze by Hendrix is about LSD. the Purple Haze name came from a cross made with the original pure haze strain, it came out purple bud so they named it purple haze.just like super silver haze, neville's haze. its just a coincidence that its called like purple haze the LSD tablets.
