Beautiful habitat!

The thin stemmed mushrooms are pretty gorgeous in pics 1, 3 and 4 too. What are they?

Look to me like Mycena cystidiosa, with plenty of pseudostipes, the white threads in the litter.

Nice examples, and well spotted ent.  nice one.

Hey all,

Went for a look around the outskirts of a football field about an hour out of hobart and found a few little specimens. I had my camera sorted for half an hour but then it died so i didn't get a habitat shot of the possible subs.

Am fairly sure these are Subaeriginosa, but as always some of your advice would be appreciated!

Just wondered what these are as i have seen a bunch of em. I am just getting used to the features of Psilocybe semilanceata and at the time wondered whether these were them and since i didn't have a camera i decided to grab a few from the hundreds out there.

Yes Psilocybe subaeruginosa.  Pic 3. that middle one - make sure it stains blue, and has black/purple print.  it looks fine but just to be sure, double check it.

now, you others look a lot like Psilocybe semilanceata, but there are a few features that look wrong.  the way the cap seems to turn out at the bottom, the lack of sheen (do they have a gelatinous covering of the cap that can be peeled off?), and the colour.  the colour of the gills doesnt look quite right either.  what colour is the spore print?

The stems look fine to me, but i want to see a photo of the base.  for id purposes it helps to get the whole mushroom including the base and some mycelium if possible.  what was the habitat, and what were they growing in.

can you post with better lighting.

Sweet, thanks heaps Obtuse - i really appreciate that you give your time to assist noobs.

I have one of the caps sitting on paper to get a print.

These Semilanceata lookalikes definitely don't have a gel like covering on the caps. It is fairly dry and porous feeling on the caps. I will see how the spore print comes out anyway just for learning's sake.

I am limited in my ability to get good shots at the moment i am afraid, but here are slightly better ones.

And the Sub-looking one that you were wary about. I have it sitting for a spore print as we speak.

Yes Psilocybe subaeruginosa all round.  nice.

They are not Psilocybe semilanceata.  I think its a Panaeolus sp.

Those 4 Subs went down the gullet... Was a nice Saturday night. Got that feeling of being kinda close to a completely immersive inward experience but not quite there. Trying to do some programming for a Uni assignment and it is amazing that it is kinda do-able. The opposite of alcohol where you just don't even attempt to do proper thinking. It was prolly a barely level 2 kinda experience from 4 fresh medium sized subs

How many fresh subs do folks on here like to take for a complete trip where they can close their eyes and be immersed in the trip?

Not the place to ask about dosage IMO.  this thread is just to show off finds  and for assistance where needed.

its really a personal thing as peoples neuro chemistries can vary a lot.  theoretically a small dose could be used as a baseline and then be increased till a sweet spot is hit.

Be sure to double check that assignment that it makes sense tomorrow

Went for a walk this afternoon to an area where I had good success last year.  Hardly anything about, certainly no subs but not very many inactives either.

I feel it is still too warm and dry.  There were plenty of grasshoppers still around which would indicate the same.

I went through a cow paddock and found these babies lurking about.

look like Marasmius oreades. Definitely not active.

The fact you were out in a cow paddock make me wonder if you have done sufficient research.

If you are after Psilocybe subaeruginosa you need to be looking amongst wood debre, around Eucalyptus spp. or Pinus spp., or in suburban garden beds mulched with wood chips.

Psilocybe semilanceata are found amongst grass, but look nothing like that.

Before looking again read about about how to identify both species and their relative habitats.  this site is an amazing resource so make sure you make the most of it and dont make blind stabs in the dark hoping you scored.

Using the search function to go through previous years' "Season" threads from start to finish should get you pointed in the right direction. Eg:

Tasmanian Season 2013

I've been there and done that, experienced the frustration of floundering then when you realise where and when to look - voila!  Success is easy!
