I agree with you Nevermind. I pinch them off at ground level with my fingers. I find it has no noticeable effects on my patches. Definitely do not want to give the police the justification to use force because they would absolutely jump at the opportunity to whip out their taser! How has everyone's hunting been going? Hasn't been too much activity on here recently? Anyone pulling in some decent finds still? Need a little more moisture to fall I reckon!

There really is no right or wrong way to pick mushrooms IMO. It's fine to use scissors if you want, but I don't see a need for them personally.
I'll be hitting up my patches tomorrow... hopefully I can get some nice shots of my new patch with all the large subs. And some shots of the Panaelous species I found also.
Then on Sunday I'll go to my regular patches... I didn't have the energy to check them today.

I pinch them out as well. I leave a thumbnail and a finger nail long to help.

I have to say I'm loving the potency of the Tasmanian subearuginosa! I'm from New Zealand originally and they're fairly good over there too but I've been living in North Queensland for the past few years and been eating huge cubensis. They have nowhere near the same potency. Hunting for them is still fun though. A lot riskier as you are usually in someone else's paddock. Nothing beats Tassie though.

Going from cubes to subs would be a huge difference haha.
Where abouts in QLD were you? I was over in Goldy for a while, and still have a couple of mates over there. I've told them to hit up the cow fields towards December - February but they don't wanna take the risk. I've never done it, but I don't think it would be too difficult... I mean a farmer may own 20 fields, but generally only has one house, just doesn't seem like there's a big risk of a crazy farmer coming out with a rifle and shooting at you if you stick to fields well away from any houses haha

I was in airlie beach and yeah it definitely is different. I was used to wood chips and wood lovers in NZ and then to go to cow dung was weird!! Really cool though. Sort of a mad dash through the fields collects as much as you can and go. Huge cubes!! Like some of them 6 or 7 inches tall and thick with probably 10-14 cm diameter caps! Everything seems to grow massive up North Queensland. I used I live on the Gold Coast for a few years too. There's some good places around pimpama in the fields there.

Swwet, I'll let the boys know Pimpana is a good area! Cheers mate. I was out in the suburbs, about 10 minutes from Southport. Always had my eyes on the ground looking for any type of mushrooms, but it was just too hot at the time, and way out of season for anything

Concerning scissors,
When I started out on this site, I just remember seeing it said that "use scissors to not damage the mycelium". So that's what I did. But I've also since read on this site, the opinion that the damage that is caused may in fact be a good thing. So now I use both ways. Mainly scissors, but sometimes using my fingers, I scrape off the mycelium off and kinda spread it out and around as it falls to the ground. Does that work? I hope so. Some one should do a controlled test to see whether scissors or damaging the mycelium is the better way.
I think the law factor is more of an issue in suburbia. In the bush they would probably figure out that the person is looking for mushrooms. Maybe the best way is using a chainsaw!!!!
Probably one of the biggest sub I've seen!!

Some regular sized ones.

And, this mushroom, if only subs grew to this size!!!!!!

Went back to my new patch today, but unfortunately there was not a lot there. A few manky subs, which I left. I jumped over the fence into the neighbors property and found a few nice ones though. Also found a whole heap of a Panaelous species which I'm printing now, but will post in a separate thread until ID is confirmed.
Habitat shot:

The largest one I picked came in at just over 12g fresh. The second largest was fairly close, at roughly 10.7g fresh.

We need more (you know), and a good (you know) worth to get things really going again.

Yep you're spot on blessed. That's exactly what we need. A question for you knowledgable people..... I recently found a massive patch and harvested a couple of kilo from it. The question is do you think this patch will replenish itself and I could expect th same yields from it again this season and if so how many times? Cheers :-)

Most likely.. I'd wait at least 7 days, but 10 - 14 days would be ideal. It really depends on how well established the mycelium was though.
I had a patch where I could pick between half a kilo to 1 kilo each week...it was amazing how good it was.
It may not fruit again with a huge amounts though, but I'd say its likely to continue fruiting this year even if the amounts are smaller... If not, it is still worth checking out next year too!

Thanks nevermind. Yeah will definitely be checking it out again as I left heaps of pins and older ones.

That looks exactly like the place I was talking about....I was picking huge amounts from an area just like that on a weekly basis... Are you North or South?

Those upturned wavy ones tend to be the most prolific in terms of sheer numbers within a given area, in my experience. Of course the other shapes and sizes can fruit strongly as well, but the biggest and most numerous patches I've found were with the upturned wavy ones.

These are from my hunt yesterday.. just in my usual spot. But, as I was leaving I went into what I believe would have been a creak or a stream many years ago and I discovered a sub on the bank amongst the ferns. I then crawled through the ferns for about 150 metres or so finding more and more on my way back out to the track. It was really cool actually, I found some really good looking subs and a whole heap of other cool mushrooms.
Really sick of my images being flipped the wrong way... nothing I do changes it, even if I edit the pictures before uploading... so once again these are all rotated the wrong way.

Nice pics Nevermind. Are you up North or down south? Yeah mushroom spider I find tht too. Or the really small wavey not upturned caps that you find growing about 8 out of one clump they can produce some good numbers. They're heavy too.

I'm down South.
That patch you posted above looks so much like my best patch... a woodchip garden with stringy bark sort of mulch over the top, stretching about 10 x 5 metres.
