I was in Flinders Island for work and came across some interesting fungi: Ergot (Claviceps purpurea) on cocksfoot grass (Dactylis glomerata). Seems like a good chance to start off the 2014 season, or am I stretching it too far?
Enjoy!

No filters just an iPhone probably shitty angle from the light. No it's not a sub. Not 100% and don't want to speculate here's another shot of it.

Hey guys, I was just out walking the dog when I saw what I think are "gold tops" or Psilocybe Subaeruginosa. It's my first time picking wild shrooms so if someone could help identify I would much appreciate it I picked 90 grams fresh in total, and this is in NW tassie. Heaps of pins left there too.

your looking in the right area. i have found these within metres, and in one spot less than a metre, of subs, so be really careful and vigilant.
the photos are not great and i would have appreciated a photo of gills.

Yep all are subs, all from a spot on the east coast, eucalypt forest with pines bordering. Up an Old forest track, few pins about, I also found older subs that I was unsure about, but once they dried a little you could see the blue in the spots I'd earlier squeezed, spent a good 3 hours looking and found 8 mature

Hey everybody
thought I'd share my finds (wet schlerophyll forest in the state's south).
It was the previous two years of the Tasmanian thread that helped me out. Only my second 'hunt'.
cheers

Hey all,
Went for a look around the outskirts of a football field about an hour out of hobart and found a few little specimens. I had my camera sorted for half an hour but then it died so i didn't get a habitat shot of the possible subs.
Am fairly sure these are Subaeriginosa, but as always some of your advice would be appreciated!

Just wondered what these are as i have seen a bunch of em. I am just getting used to the features of Psilocybe semilanceata and at the time wondered whether these were them and since i didn't have a camera i decided to grab a few from the hundreds out there.

Sweet, thanks heaps Obtuse - i really appreciate that you give your time to assist noobs.
I have one of the caps sitting on paper to get a print.
These Semilanceata lookalikes definitely don't have a gel like covering on the caps. It is fairly dry and porous feeling on the caps. I will see how the spore print comes out anyway just for learning's sake.
I am limited in my ability to get good shots at the moment i am afraid, but here are slightly better ones.

And the Sub-looking one that you were wary about. I have it sitting for a spore print as we speak.
