Darko Syndrome?
    #19813345 - 04/08/14 02:34 PM (10 years, 10 days ago)

My buddy T and I have a longstanding joke that if he ever watches Donnie Darko on psychedelics, he will have an utter nightmare of a mind-fuck. Obviously it's a trippy movie, but I kind of wonder whether there is perhaps something about Darko that could perhaps cause schizophrenic behavior or derealization in somebody on drugs. A "Darko syndrome," maybe.

Has anyone watched the movie high or on psychs? Any reports of the dreaded Darko Syndrome?

No I haven't, but I watched enter the void in the middle of a 3 day DOC binge trip. It was a terrifyingly amazing time.

I watched The Matrix while tripping pretty hard once. All the action scenes were even cheesier than normal

We couldn't figure out the parts where they'd time-travel and enter 'the matrix,' and we'd rewind it to try to figure out how they could do it  We ended up tripping ourselves out even harder by believing that that was just how the movie was supposed to go.

We rewinded it to the same parts about nine or ten times during the peak, just trying to figure out what was going on and how they got from a spaceship to new york, then from new york to a spaceship.

We laughed really hard about it after we comprehended what was going on. I don't even have an excuse because I knew the general plot.

When I was high I had to turn it off at some point cuz I got too creeped out.
Idk how your friend is with scary movies, but I wouldn't recommend unless hes a strong dude

I didn't even think Darko was a scary movie lol. I actually have watched full blown horror flicks many times while tripping, but then again, I'm a big fan of horror films.

When I watch horror films when tripping, I end up busting out laughing more often than not. Mostly because of how unrealistic and corny most movies appear while tripping, even when they're not a corny movie. Also, the fact that you can't follow a storyline worth shit makes it even more entertaining to watch, because horror films seem pretty silly without any sort of plot.

Its the background music and sound effects in movies that sets the tone. I like to watch funny movies because they usually have really cheerful music that inspires glee.

I remember watching the movie "Elf" one time (well not really watching but it was playing) and I had a perma-grin the entire time because of the cheerful christmas music. I would often find myself uncontrollably bobbing my head left and right to the beat of the music.

In an entheogen influenced moment of clarity I came to understand that reality manifests as a dream from the collective subconscious minds of all conscious entities. Nothingness made something because we collectively believe it into being, and physical laws given power by the reinforcement of conscious observation. Creation, destruction, and even time itself are but an aspect of ourselves and we of them. Life and death, simply illusions we face from a limited grasp of our own existence. We are one, all is eternal.

I haven't watched this particular movie while tripping but have watched similar movies.

There is definitely a mind fuck with it but I associate it with the ideas that are being brought up in the movie.  Donnie darko has a lot of themes going through it and a lot to stimulate your thoughts to going to some weird places.

I typically don't watch movies when tripping but they have their time in place.  In the past there were many times where I turned off a movie because the images were too disturbing.  Almost like things were happening so fast and loud that I couldn't handle the rapid firing of thoughts.

I even attempted to trip in a movie theater a few times.  Most end up in me leaving because coming up and trying to "act normal" is overwhelming and make me want to explode.

I couldn´t even use any kind of electrical devices when tripping. The presence of electricity in the circuits is very annoying, and a TV would really be too much. I´d rather prefer a calm place with nothing man-made around.

Movies are for sane, sober people, who understand whats going on. Maybe one could get some enjoyment or whatever kind of feeling from the sounds or the pictures, but a movie plot would be quite unintelligible.

I've never watched Donnie Darko.

But last weekend I went to a friend's house and he was halfway thru this fucked up movie. Called "John Dies at the End." It is a mindfuck even sober. It's about this living drug that connects you to other dimensions and is basically a living entity that controls you and it is trying to take over the world. On first glance, it seems like a very stupid movie. There isn't a 5 minute spot in that movie that isn't like WTF??

The movie description was something like "Seeing shadow people? Having contact with beings from other dimensions? You may want to reconsider your recreational drugs."

Watched that movie a hundred times. I mean I really loved it. Now, the wow factor has faded. The plot doesn't make sense. Still a lot of really cool shots, and great soundtrack, I'll give it that. The director's cut was awful though.

Don't watch movies on psychedelics, you're wasting the drugs.

I watched this sober and it is fucked enough as it is IMO lol. Hell of a film though!

Watched Zodiac on the comedown off 2 lsz hits the other week, i'm not normally into films of psychs but I really got into it and it was SICK.

Darko i've only watched sober, but there's enough dark imagery to feed bad vibes for sure. Wouldn't say it's schizo-potentiating but anything that concerns the fabric of our reality will be strange while tripping.
