hint: the purpleish tones on the cap are key indicators of this species [or complex, i'm not sure] within the genus.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

you think thats what they are concrete? i was thinking something else in the genus, the purple you notice is a sporeprint, but in normal light it is very much rusty orange.
spiritus is correct. gymnopilus spectabilus, were you {concrete} suggesting Gymnopilus purpuratus?

I am actually a newbie, and have been on one shroom hunt in my life.

I just read a lot and look at pictures... it can make you significantly better at the whole thing... even if you have little experiance.

Damn those are some dirty ass looking spectabilus. The caps that I find are very smoothe and more even in their stucture. Very nice job spiritus.

i was actualy suggesting G. aeruginosus, wich [unlike purpuratus] may actualy occur in your area, and wich, unless i'm mistaken, is also prone to having purple tones in the cap.

man something took a shit on the Gymnopilus, i was thinking of some other clustered wood-lover, except of course the orangey spore print.

doesnt look like a G. spectabilis definately. good idea mitch.

Gymnopilus aeruginosus... hmm concrete, i beleve you may be right
its spot-on accurate for all characteristics including the minor cap scaling and green staining in the cap, id rather find spectabilus tho, here ive been calling Gymnopilus aeruginosus, "Gymnopilus spectabilus" for YEARS :P
