Question on dried mushroom identification

Im not seasoned in identification yet and definately cannot ID dry. I just picked some up from a buddy and im curious to find out what species they are. Unfortunately, I dont have a digital camera or id link a pic which would have made this easier. Im curious to know if it is possible to identify dried mushrooms? Im assuming it is and if there is some sort of website or resource that has good pictures for identifying dried mushrooms?

Yea sure there is, the easiest way is to google dried mushroom identification. Another easy way to find out is to post a discription of the dried species and we will do our best to help. (Eg) Cap, gills stem and spore sometimes even a scent can help id.

hmm ok let me give this a shot, like I said im brand new to this ID stuff so I dont know the terms. Ill be using my terms lol.
cap: goldish brown to a dirty blonde, more dark the smaller they are. Some caps are large and split into seperate semi-large pieces. The other caps are relatively small, about the circumfrance of a penny. It looks like the gills are just starting to form inside the cap and theyre a dark grey/brown. The smaller caps, that are the circumf. of a penny, seem to be almost a complete sphere if they were to wrap around and touch. Not smooth at all more rigid and wrinkly.
stem: Same color as the caps but about 3 shades brighter, pretty much your basic whiteish/slightly brownish color. I cant positively give a length of the stems.
Bruise: Blue, Green, and Grey all mixed together.
Gills: I dont even know but it looks like a heavy dark brown. they look like they all run straight down like a barcode, but in a sphere, if that makes any sense.
There is one that seems like it was picked at the base. From the base to the top of the cap it is half the length of a lighter from base of the lighter to button. At the top is a cap that hasnt broken and has just started to take on a bubble shape, expending out from the stalk. The cap is dark and looks as though as it expands over the round top, there is an excess of , skin i guess, that is just chilling there waiting to be stretched out, im assuming? grey / blue / green band right below the cap meets the stalk. another band at the base of the stalk.
I hope that was enough info, thanks guys!

The best way to identify a dried mushroom is to look at a piece of the gill under a microscope.

Look at the stem pieces, you are looking for blue staining.

If you buy dried psilocybin mushrooms, they will almost always be Ps. cubensis. And with a photo (description will not help, photos are really necessary) we could tell you if it is or is not Ps. cubensis, only because most of us are very familiar with that particular mushroom since it is the most commonly cultivated species. However, if it is not Ps. cubensis, then don't expect to get a positive ID.

You have yourself some p.cubensis Common, and safe to ingest. Enjoy!

Start your own thread. With the exception of a few species, identifying dried mushrooms is difficult.
