seems like a lot of people are using this 21 gallon cedar tub for their monotub, props to monstermitch's monotub tek.
however, i am confused as to how much substrate to use in this tub, so that the (substrate) level is at the appropriate height near the bottom air exchange holes. i am NOT confused about the ratio of spawn to bulk substrate, rather the entire mix that will end up in the monotub.
according to rubbermaid, this 21 gallon tub's dimentions are: 24"x16"x20.1" = 7718 cubic inches = 33.4 gallons?? 21 gallons = 4851 cubic inches this large discrepancy makes estimating the substrate depth rather difficult. it looks like the tub does taper a bit, in other words, the length and width do vary a little bit from top to bottom - so simply multiplying LxWxH isn't the exact volume of the tub, but it should be closer than the calculations above, which are off by almost 60%.
anyone have the CORRECT dimentions of this 21 gallon tub? the length and width of the bottom is what's really needed. planning to use 7.5lbs of hpoo (~10 quarts) with 8-9 pints spawn - 3.625 gallons or 837.4 cubic inches total substrate.

thanks to monstermitch, the length and width of the bottom of the 21 gallon is about 12"x18". using 7.5lbs of hpoo (~10 quarts) with 8-9 pints spawn - 3.625 gallons or 837.4 cubic inches total substrate - this should give a substrate depth of about 3.9". this seems about right. hopefully, with a substrate depth of more than double what is reported here, the results will be just as (or even more) fruitful.
btw, nice grow tokey!

A ha,I am so glad this thread got raised from the dead
Not only have I been searching around for an easy place for those exact tubs without ordering straight from the rubber maid store but I have been gathering information to use MM's mono-tub tek for my next grow now that I shut down the greenhouse......5 for you
