When to toss cakes and put a new one in?
    #1980202 - 10/05/03 01:19 AM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Hi all-

My friend expresses much thanks to the shroomery.org for getting him to where he is(harvested ~15 g dry). Sorry for the long post but he has several questions....

He has a terrarium with about 12 cakes and 2 casings in it. It is full right now but there are maybe 20-30 more cakes(80-100% done) ready to be dropped in. It is full right now.

He wants to be done with this whole thing as quick as possible. So should he toss the cakes after 1 flush? 2? I mean what % will be obtained from the first flush?

Also, could he stack 2 cakes on top of each other to get more shit in the terrarium? Wouldn't this work? Maybe with wet verm in between? Or will they grow in between and start rotting if not spotted and picked?

Lastly; he has just perlite and a bottle of water with a pump/air stone setup providing additional RH. The setup will be moving soon to somewhere that he can't check it as often. It's about 60 L in size. Is a fan/mist once a day sufficient? (So far he's been doing 3 everyday)

Much thanks and he'll try to take some pretty pictures soon...

Most of the time cakes will shrivel up a little and turn bluish when done. I don't see anything wrong with stacking cakes. Never seen it done before though. Fanning once a day should be sufficient.
Good Luck.

I've seen someone stack cakes before. They were mighty nice looking cakes, too. He/She took cabob sticks (the thicker kind) and just stuck it right down the center of both the cakes to prevent the top cake from falling off. I say your friend does it with the verm in between.
