Lepiota rhacodes + more

Hey all.
I appear to have stumbled across a very nice patch of either Lepiota rhacodes, or procera. i am pretty sure they are l.rhacodes
spore print : white habitat : dark, wet soil under a tree. mixture of leaf litter, soil, bit of wood chip. [NW UK) bruises : red-brown, within 10-20 secs, especially when cut [this is what makes me think it is rhacodes]
anyway, it'd be great if you could take a look at the first 4 photos and let me know what you think. i didnt give much of a description as i'm pretty positive of the ID.
So; L.Procera is a great edible, but what about rhacodes? is it worth a little nibble after being fried in butter?
also; the specimens are a bit manky, but some of them could clean up well. any differences between the young specimens and the old?
i've included two other photos i took today of nice mushrooms.
cheers, mike.

I'd say L. rachodes, but I'm far from an expert. I tried some that I found last year and liked them, definitely worth trying, I'll pick them again next time I see some . DH

Those look like Lepiota rachodes to me.
Your bruising is far more spectacular than the ones I find. On mine, the gills bruise only slightly, and the color is not so bright.
I think they're a pretty good edible.
Happy mushrooming!

Toxicman: thats a pretty good representation of the colour as well. i was pretty surprised to see them go that red as well.
nofind_um: not too sure about genus really, my best guess was Hypholoma elongatum. the lawn where they grow has moss in it and right now theres a load of Hygrophorus psittacinus.
here's a link to the 1024x768 photos of the last two for you desktop.

this is going to be my first consumption of an edible i've found. well, apart from the psilocybe variety
whats the best way to cook these and should i use a mature or young mushroom?
my mushroom field book says "if the caps are fried in butter and served with a well-dressed salad, the experiences will be one to be cherished."
also; are the mushroom in the moss, the small red ones Galerina hypnorum?

Sounds pretty good to me.

We need to see the stem, and do some microscope work to tell. Based on Moser's description, they look a little more brightly colored than I would have guessed they should be.
To ID them, you will need to start with a spore print, and there will need to be a very detailed description to have a chance to getting the species (and being reasonably sure about it).
Happy mushrooming!

thats awesome. did you taste the almondy flavor in them?
i have never had M. rhacodes but i have M. procera on many occasions fried simply in butter. the best fried mushroom ive come across. better than Lactarius deliciosus. marvelous sweet/slightly bitter almondy flavor.mmmmm.
ive heard also that M. rhacodes is slightly tougher on the stomach than M. procera, and that M. procera is better, but how am i to know that? oh my god.
hope you find some more, those are so good.
