Nice images Heyowana, those "insects" are springtails. With these images I'm now certain this is the same species as the one my friend found here in NZ.

Thank you both very much. This new flushing looks very healthy. The stipes are thicker and I think these fruiting bodies will be larger.
It's funny after writing about sending the specimens to Jan Borovicka I was missing the idea of having a little collection of these mushrooms. So I walk around for hours looking to no avail. I get back to the spot where I found the one I photographed and my camera's battery is running out of power.
I just walk along the trail of horse manure I made and there they are. I've looked there every day including this morning. For some reason I didn't see them even though there are quite a lot coming up now. It's up the dry end too so I don't know why but I'm thankful.
Jan Borovicka was saying he will DNA sequence them as well as making a herbarium collection. I sent them a bit over a week ago so I hope they arrive there safely.

Nice shots Heyowana. Just a little tip, notice in that first one the mushrooms are a little out of focus but the leaf and small pin in the background are in focus, I think you are a bit too close to the subject, move back a bit and you should be able to get those specimens in focus a bit better.
Good job and it's nice to see these larger images:)

Thanks Inski. I tried the same shot yesterday and both the old ones were out of focus. Today it's still the same off macro. I'll try what you said.
The bluing is quite dark and abundant for Psilocybe alutacea. What are your thoughts on this?

Yes, with that image I was referring to, if you move back about 50-70mm you should be able to get the subject in focus and you can then crop it.
This is without a doubt the same species that my friend saw here in NZ. The blue staining reaction in Psilocybe can be quite variable from collection to collection, I observed intense blueing in the above linked observation, I'm open to the idea that this could be something else, even a new species but so far it seems to be a good match for P. alutacea

There is some crossover between micro and macro characteristics between this and P. fimetaria.

You are the man to talk to about these species. With Psilocybe fimetaria I saw a photo from USA showing them growing on horse manure. The person who had posted it was making a comparison noting the similarity between that species and P.alutacea.
Observing the photo the caps looked drier like P.mexicana. However I shall research this a bit more. Thanks for the link.

I was looking on google search at P.fimetaria and saw the photo I mentioned above. I also saw photos showing P.fimetaria with a cap similar to my ones. It looks to have a stronger bluing reaction than the examples I have seen so far of P.alutacea.
I see what you mean about cross over between P.alutacea and P.fimetaria for macro characteristics. There was an interesting photo that matched the Psilocybe I found in Qld very well. Reference - Psilocybe fimetaria (P.D.Orton) Watling.www.asturnatura.com.
