Great work mate !

What do you use to keep the critters at bay ? I've heard diatomaceous earth works very well.

I have been useing the find and stomp method as my diatomaceous earth that I use in my aquarium filter doesn't seem to work at all :shake:

Yeah, the Diatamaceous Earth only works if it is dry, it sort of forms a barrier that is uncomfortable for them to cross because the tiny spiny skeletons of the diatoms pierce their flesh and cause dessication, also, if it is on plants that they eat it is supposed to compact their gut and eventually kill them. I do not think it works that well, in general.

However, here is one method that might work for out door beds. Make a "raised" bed with 1x4 lumber surounding it and around the top of the lumber nail copper flashing, or, if you can find it in a garden supply store, copper coated tape. Slugs hate to cross copper, the active electrons in copper give them a shock sort of like when you put your tongue to a nine volt battery. This should keep all but the most determined slugs out of the bed. I used a similar method to protect garden seedlings to great effect. If you use this method, in concert with beer baiting, or even "sacrificial" patches of mushrooms, you may be able to protect your prized patches. I have not tried this strategy, but slugs are fucking with me too, so I have been giving it some thought....

good job. ya heh slugs... they can be annoying. they're real sneaky slimers as they mostly munch at night and then by morning the damage is done and it's too late. I know how much they are attracted to beer tho , because i left a can with just a bit of beer in the bottom outside and by morning there was a dead slug in there. But i would never have the heart to waste an entire can of good brew to capture a small army of slugs.
roscoe those ideas with the copper around the edges of an enclosure area sound good.
