I sterilized my first batch without a PC. Half-pint jars, 60 minutes. 13 out of 15 jars got a bacterial contamination (wet spot).
My advice: Don?t try it on any grain substrate. Go BRF, small jars, 90 minutes at least, or maybe sterilize them twice.
Although most mold spores can be killed without a PC, some heat resistant bacteria endospores can be hard to kill. Maybe you could leave your unsterilized jars to sit for a day before you sterilize. That way the endospores will "wake up" and start to grow first. This way they will be more vulnerable when you cook them.
Good luck!

Yes, but it will take longer. I?m not sure if its safe with jars tho, too hot and they might crack?
Here?s a way to do it with oven bags: http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23705

60 minutes without a PC for BRF only worked fine for my baby seal.

No, you'll end up with dried out jars; use steam. Steaming for 60 minutes works fine for BRF PF Tek jars. Grains are another story.

You can cook your brown rice or rice flour in the oven until it is toasted brown before you make your substrate if you want to double sterilize.

Fractional sterilization rarely works. Use a steam bath for BRF or a PC for grains. Anything else and you're very likely to fail.

It works fine for me. I bake at 350'F. It's enough to kill just about anything, and not enough to "toast" the BRF.
Then I add water and steam.

11 year old thread I doubt they're going to come answer that.
Use a gamma sterilizer if you don't have a PC
