Black mould on my shrooms?

Hi,
First time poster, first time grower, haven't even done shrooms before either.
Now that the introductions are over, I have a question about my Shrroms.
Firstly, there seems to be some black mould covering some of my shrooms and I fear I waited too long to pick them. They are now picked and in the fridge, but I am wondering if they are "safe" to eat, a thumbnail of the mould is below, with more pics in the link.
Secondly, from looking at the pics, can anyone tell me the species? The man in the shop said they were Mexican, which would lead me to assume they are the mexicana species.
Thanks for any info, as I said I'm a complete newbie, so treat me gently, and thanks for a cool site and community.

hell i wouldve picked them bad boys already. a good rule of thumb is to pick when the veil is about to break. unless of course youre tryin for spores...on that note, spores also can inhibit growth of future flushes if they fall all over the casing like im assuming yours did. good luck and congrats on your furst grow

sure. psilocybe cubensis is a species - it has many strains, including one from mexico. psilocybe mexicana is another active psilocybe species. it's claim to fame is that as well as nice active fruits, it grows lumps under the surface called sclerotia, also active.
mexicana is also known as teonanacatl or mushroom of the gods. grows best on rye grass seed, i've read, tho i've never done em (yet). as to ease, methods etc, do a quick search here.

So, there is a Psilocybe cubensis mexicana strain (Matias Romero perhaps???) and the Psilocybe mexicana specie that is classified in A and B, being one of the two a sclerotia producer. Am I right?
