Grow log /Review Midwestgrowkits, Golden Teacher.

Hello and welcome, new account, old poster. As I never had success with growing with my own supplies (Seriously, I did a ryeberry tek and I could only grow fucking bugs.) I have decided to go with a pre-packaged/sterilized grow bag. This will serve as a grow log, and a review. Lets get this log started The Log
March 28th 5' O clock in the afternoon
I have purchased 2 rye grow bags, and a syringe of Golden Teacher spores for "Microscopy purposes only". I hope they will arrive in quick time.
UPDATE: I have purchased two thermometers, one infrared, and one lcd. The LCD thermometer is to test against the ratings of the infrared, which I hope is accurate.
March 31st 2:06 PM
All items have been shipped.
April 4th 3:24 The spores have arrived. I find my spawn bags hurriedly, spraying anti-bacterial with glee I found the sanitation wipes and rubbed them against the black self-healing injector ports per instructions. I took my Golden Teacher syringe and used another sanitation wipe on it, then I flamed the needle and used another wipe. Injecting went a bit faster, I initially planned to repeat the steps after the first, but I thought that taking that time to do it would probably amount to more bacteria.
April 10th 2:14 No signs of growth yet, I have recieved my agar and agar plates, they have been inoculated
The Pics

The Plan As the kit comes with two rye spawn bags, both will be held until they are ready to truly start growing. One bag will be left alone, the other will be cased. From here we will be able to see which harbors the better outcome. Wish me luck.
The Review Customer Service: I began my chat with a customer service person about 25 minutes ago. For this category I will give it 5 stars, he answered all of my questions in a timely fashion. They got some smart people over there. If you're reading this, thanks for the help Jake! Yield: Effort: Time to colonize: Time to fruit:

Probably unnecessary man. Heat the room. Not the chamber. If your thermostat is set at 70 then the temperature is probably about 70.
I've been doing fine for the last 9 months and the only time I bought a thermometer was when I built a massive 35 gallon Tub incubator a-la frank's tek. For colonizing bags this is really unnecessary.
EDIT: Sorry misread. Are you going to try to fruit in the bag or take it out of the bag and put it in a shotgun fruiting chamber like a big cake? What's the contents of the bag?
Glad to hear your starting to try cultivating again but it might help to know you're whole plan back to front.

Hey I think you have a serious misunderstanding of what a bag of rye is for. It's not a 'grow bag', it's a 'spawn bag'. Once the rye is done colonizing you'll need to 'spawn' it to a bulk substrate like horse poop or coconut coir into a monotub fruiting chamber or a tray inside a shotgun fruiting chamber. A 'rye bag' is not an all-in-one growing bag. It's only 1/3rd of the process.
But maybe you already knew that. What is your plan for that colonized rye?
EDIT: You could also case those grains directly in a tray but you'll still need to build a fruiting chamber for them.

All infrared thermometers have to have a tolerance rating in the specs because they're used to tag lab samples \ food stuff \ etc. You probably won't need it, though. And like Tiger said, fruiting straight grains works, but it also kinda sucks for longevity and yield. In for a penny...

Take a look at whats in it for yourself
"Each bag contains 3 pounds of nutrient-enhanced organic rye berries and a mixture of distilled and mineral water fortified with gypsum, diammonium phosphate (a fertilizer/nutrient to provide an adequate amount of nitrogen, and correct PH) and other nutrient enhancing herbs and minerals. Each spawn bag has a built in filter patch for gas exchange and a self-healing injector port for effortless and error proof inoculation. "

With this, I want to be as accurate as possible. If the room is 70 degrees, and the bag is 69 degrees, I want to know it.

It's still gonna need to be mixed with bulk, or cased for best results. Straight grains don't fruit too well...

Really unnecessary to monitor temps that closely my man. Cubes will grow well in a wide range of temps. If you have extreme temps in the grow environment then it's a different story.

Haha your going to have fun with that infrared one. First one I got I was taking the temp of everything...drinks, bongs,cooking......but you won't need it for shrooms. Just keep room temps and you'll be fine.

I've not grown for about 2 years now, so while this baby colonizes ill definitely be researching a bit more. But I do have a large plastic tub I can use for fruiting.

The pledge bottle is showing early signs of contamination. You should mist it more often and make sure it's getting a 12/12 light schedule. If it doesn't recover on it's own you can try peroxide but I don't think you have much of a chance of salvaging it.
Best to go out and buy a bottle of Lysol to replace it.

it looks off. how's your hole placement? and hole size? and I dont really get it, are you asking q's or just starting up and adding pics of your equipment?
EDIT: now I'm really confused. pre-sterilized grain bags and a sgfc? what are you trying to do? trays? it almost seems like you want to fruit straight grains in the bag in a sgfc. if so, don't. spawn the grain to a coir+verm substrate and mix it all in a monotub.

This is more of a growlog/review of midwest grow kits, im going to colonize the grain bag, and create a casing layer and let it fruit in the SGFC, im open to comments about EVERYTHING. Should I add more holes?
