Side pins, FAE????

I have one bin that seemed a little stunted developing pins, then I noticed there's like 100 maturing pins growing along the sides of the bin about 1 in a half down.. I remember reading this might be caused by too much air exchange, and might be bad for the substrate for future flushs... can anyone expand on this??? thanks a bunch

You got side pins because you didn't use a liner in the tub, and fresh air is hitting the sides of the substrate, creating a better microclimate for pinning than the top surface.
This is why we recommend using liners, they stick to the substrate as it consolidates(shrinks), and eliminates that microclimate that pins seem to love.
It's not from too much FAE, just FAE in the wrong places.

Theres too much space between the liner and the sub which created a good enough micro climate to promote pinning on the sides. I'm not sure how that happened. Did the sides dry out too much and shrink away from the tub? The liner should have stuck to the substate and shrunk away with it.

I`d bet lots of money he`s sure. Not the best material for a liner. Also the sides and bottom not worked out well. If you have that much wrinkles in the liner, it won`t work as it should. I always suffer from heavy condensation down the sides, so i never go without a liner and it never failed. A 3-in-one solution in addition to fast harvest and clean up. But nice side pins by the way
EDIT: Shit, just saw it`s necro, but IΒ΄ll leave it here

No, that isn't what happened. The liner was separated from the sub when the side pinning became prolific enough that it was decided that the liner shall be disregarded, since it wasn't doing its job anyway.

Hehe yeah they seem to be enjoying life as is so might as well leave em to it. Took a bunch of clones too, should be some nice potential in there. OK, I'll let the sleeping dog lie now, nice talk
