PF Cakes half colonized?
    #1975368 - 10/03/03 07:16 AM (20 years, 5 months ago)

I inoculated a brf cake about three weeks ago.. The mycellum was growing strongly up until last week, when it seemed to have stopped spreading... Half the cake is colonized (maybe even showing signs of pinning) but the other is untouched.. just a 1/2 pint cake too.. any ideas?

carbon dioxide (CO2) builds up inside the jars, turning them over will allow the CO2 to drain out as it is heavier than oxygen (O2).

would it be better to flip them every other week? or is this not really a concern unless growth pauses

My friend says.. after innoc. keep the holes taped for 2 weeks, then remove the tape and flip. This allows c02 to escape and will colonize the jar much faster, therefore making it harder for contams to get ahold.... good luck
