Noob to cultivating so any help would be great.
I appreciate that the above fungi is not the best to learn the ropes and an easier choice would be more suited, but I'm going for it any way. I all ready have live myc so that should make things easier.
I have acquired a small amount of woodchip inoculated with cyan myc. I've placed the woodchip/mud its mixed with in a sandwich of damp corrugated cardboard. Once its colonized that I'll move it to some Alder chips.
As you can see from my picture the inoculated chips i have at the moment are in quite a think lump. Should i carefully break this down and spread it evenly on the card? or should i leave it as it is.
Also can i leave my colonized Alder (if i get that far) inside un till the spring if i keep it moist? As i under stand thats the best time to move to out side beds
Any tips or advise i would greatly appreciate.

I'm not yet ready for an outdoor bed but have read about exotic species and made it a plan for the future. The third link in my signature is about comparing the potency of species.
Based on what I've learned, I can only advise to go for azures instead.
p. azures are said to be more powerful than p. cyans. made for outdoor beds also...
my 2 cents

Thanks for your post bud but i all ready have live cyan myc so thats what I'm going with. I'm in the right climate for out door beds so thats not a problem.
If any one else can chime in about breaking down the clump of myc/chips/mud i would appreciate that. The last thing i want to do is damage the myc Also if i can store it inside un till the spring keeping it moist would be useful info. I've searched but can't find an answer.

was mostly pointing that out in response to your signature... hope you find what you need best of luck ;-)
fyi I see you've just removed the "looking for p cyan prints" from your signature... for those who wouldn't understand my above response.

So you mined some myc from a local patch eh?
I dont bother with cardboard anymore.
Grab a flower pot, put some chips in it and mix that chunk in. You could break it up for my inoc points or keep it solid for a strong starting point. Then mix it up more after you have lift off and things are spreading. Keep that shit in the garage, and when this deep freeze ends, just keep it outside. You wont get any cobweb or contams that way if its outside.
I swear I should get a friggin trusted "woodlover cultivator" tag!!!

Lol, You know you have one in my book. I've heard of 3 experienced exotics cultivators here and you're the most present so far. Looking forward to learning from your posts when ready for outdoors...
(To OP, psylosymon's area of knowledge is marginal on this forum. So you might not get many replies... So make sure to do lots of searches, and when you search, if it helps, look into specific names such as psylosymonreturns, captainfuture, or maybe the growlog archives...)

Some one i know has generously donated the myc for my scientific research
Thanks for the advice. I'm waiting on my woodchip which I've ordered online. It should be here by Monday, so i think I'll go the cardboard route. When its 60-70% colonized that I'll move it to woodchip.
About keeping it in the garage, i want to do that when the wood is fully inoculated at room temp indoors right? Then move it to the garage to keep the frost at bay un till the spring.

How cold is the garage? From my experience dont bother bringing that shit indoors as its not sterile to begin with. It just invites trich and cobweb. The best thing to do is chuck it in the pot and dont fuck with it for a few months.. I like it outside best so i dont have to water it.
You must realize the mycelium is wild and eons of years old and has lived and survived with out you bringing it inside.

Thanks man. I think I'll keep them in the conservatory un till spring. That way there not over cooked in the main house so to speak, but there also not sub zero. Probably kept around 59F
The garage can get to 0 at a guess during the winter months quite easily. The conservatory has an electric heater on a frost setting. So its not hot, but also doesn't get to cold.
Thanks for the advice bud.

Hi psylosymonreturns,
Do the chips need to be watered or can I used them dry ? Could I mix with some fertile soil for planting something like strawberries ? For the next years, if I want to "feed" my mushroom flower pot, how could I add new woodchips ? Can I break every thing with my hands and add the new chips without killing the mushroom ?

I use cardboard to seperate out the grains that invite animals to the patch.
