Yeah, I used to own a copy of it. It was a great film, if you're a Floyd fan!

I especially like the way the film caught them at a crossroads in their career. It captured the old live-performance/group-composition days, and it also showed them working in the studio on Dark Side of the Moon, which was to mark a turning point towards concept albums, lavish studio production, Water's becoming cheif song-writer, and much future in-fighting. The film really gave you a good taste of both worlds.

i have the directors cut... i really prefer the original, the new one has halfassed computer animations that don't fit with pink floyd, who always has been ahead of their time. But anyway, it's one of my favorite pink floyd "albums", with my alltime favorite echoes leading the way. there's a good chance i'll be eating my first mushrooms tonight, maybe i'll watch it.. thanks for reminding me!
and yes, there's bubbling mud pits.

I seem to remember reading that back when Pink Floyd did a lot of soundtrack work for avant guard films, in the late-sixties, that they were actually considered to contribute to the soundtrack of 2001. Not that that soundtrack could have been any better than it already was, but they certainly would have fit right in.

Yeah, I've seen parts of it (and the 2001 synch). It just came out on DVD here, and I'm going to buy it for my buddy this weekend.

kubrick wanted atom heart mother for a clockwork orange. thank god that didn't happen, the ahm album (which is brilliant) is here anyway, and wendy carlos' theme rocks! there's an alternative 2001 soundtrack somewhere, can't remember who made it, but kubrick decided to go classic instead.
as for the 2001 sync, i haven't seen it yet, but i saw half the dark side of the rainbow sync. amazing, but... boring. i like the movie, but i can't stand watching it for 1 1/2 hours... faaar to long for it's own good imo

Nick Mason delivering some of his best drumming on that film, love when he drops the stick & then manages to come back in with a killer drum roll and stay in time. Classic stuff, definately my favouite version of echoes on there too, at least from all the bootlegs etc ive heard. Trip & watch!

Yeah, that was cool. If I remember, the drum stick slips out of his hand, and goes flying up over his head, and he instantly grabs another from below his stool, and keeps playing!

I also liked it when they were in the restaurant and Nick couldn't get a center piece, without crust, from a sqaure pie -- they only had the round apple pies that day...

i LOVE that movie.
floyd playing to an audience of ghosts at a beautiful, ancient colliseum.
bubbling mud pots.
studio cuts from dark side
- there's one scene of gilmore (sp?) laying a guitar track on "brain damage." sweet licks that for some reason didnt make it onto the album.
-i also like when they're explaining to the camera that floyd is NOT a drug band.

Atom Heart Mother+Clockwork Orange=two great stand alone products, but worst mixture ever

God,WTF was Kubrick thinking? Atom Heart's all upbeat and shit. I can even picure Clockwork Orange without the Bethoven.

Yeah, there was a lot of those tracks that either didn't make it, or were mixed way down in the final master. I used to study those studio moments for little things like that. For instance, I used to like Wright's performance of, "Us and Them," and used to play it on the piano the way he did in that little studio snipet -- it worked more as a solo piano piece that way...

And yeah, that Gilmour stuff was sweet, and I also really like the complexity of Waters' bass playing for, "Eclipse," in the studio footage.

I think a lot of that stuff is still there, in the final master, but it's mixed way down, so you have to kind of listen for it, or maybe that's just my mind wanting it to be there. My brain used to fill in a lot of the intervals when I was learning that stuff, and I would play the guitar-solo to a song like, "Time," with about 3 times as many notes as Gilmour used... :smirk:
