Strange Experiment that defies....fate?
    #1974102 - 10/02/03 10:10 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

I did a strange experiemnt that left me feeling very odd and 'not with it'. I don't know why it did this to me, but it's bad 'side effects' made me think. The strange side effects are the good results.

The experiment-

Designate one day where you will deleberately don't do what you would normally do. Wake up and start with your right shoe first instead of your left (or L-R, depending on what you normally do). Stop yourself for a second every so often and change your walking pace, or what foot is first. Use your opposite hand most of the day, and glance one more time down the street. Do anything that would disrupt your normal dayily flow. The effects were stange for me- I didn't feel myself, and it was wierd. It wears off afterwards, but its something to try.

If anyone tries this experiment, I'd like to know about it and what you thought about it afterwards.

--------------------
What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?

i do weird shit all the time. I kinda jump into both my shoes. i look everywhere all the time.

I could see the world, and feel myself, or sleep all day and feel the same. I dunno. I guess being mean to people, or doing other stuff that projects bad karma makes me feel out of the loop, and down on myself, but other than that ill wear my shoes on my ears if i want to.

I've done this a little almost every day since I was in 3rd grade.
Yes, it was 3rd grade when I first intentionally stepped on the crack to break my mother's back... I did it because I felt trapped. I used to be really superstitious, too. That changed when I started breaking mirrors on purpose. Now whenever I feel like I'm in a behavioral rut, I just break the cycle and that's that.

Also, I feel much better when I do something new each day.
Like today... I learned to make psychedelic chocolate candy. Yay!

What if fate or the so-called physical laws of the universe designated that day for you to act out in order to give you the appearance of free-will though?

i've always worried about that. but why would we even be programmed to doubt our "free-will" in the first place?

Because God is dumb.

This sort of behaviour is called random belief by chaos magic: eliminate one habit and substitute a new one. The changes shouldn't be of any real significance.

An experiment that I like to live by is to make all of my decisions based on the roll of a dice. Very trippy. And I've found that the dice has never led me wrong.

I always thought it would be an interesting experiment to start yelling for no reason in a public place. I've never done it, and I don't think I could bring myself to do it at this point, but it would certainly be interesting. I think maybe I'll pull a Jesus and start preaching about my beliefs at the train station, or in a busy park. Labour rights guys did that in the early 20th century and called it soap boxing (coz they'd stand on a soap box.) I wonder how people would respond to that these days since its not something that is done anymore (except by "jesus" in downtown vancouver, but everyone thinks he's crazy... i think he's rad. Just a little intense and dogmatic...)

Those would be drastic ways of changing my ordinary behaviour. I've recently taken to dancing to music on my headphones in public, just a little bit. I'm still too self concious to go full out but I will! I like to throw new things into my day and break up the routine a bit.

That's something our lovely civilization has done for us. When we lose touch with our true nature we are filled with doubt. We're told daily both directly and subtley that we are incapable of making the right decisions for ourselves. If we have self doubt we self-police. In other words, we submit to the expectations of our death-culture because we can't bring ourselves to believe that our free will could be well directed or create something fulfilling, something vastly superior to externally and self-inflicted repression.

regardless, its on our minds. and the longer it sits there and itches, the more i just want to figure it out. i make absolutely no headway no matter how i look at it. so sometimes i just stop. but its fun to work at occasionally

I've always thought about doing this as well, start yelling something in different situations.. I've tried paying people in class before large amounts of money to stand up on their desk and start sprouting some sort of prepared lines and whatnot.. Let's just say my imagination is rather vivid, I can think of different situations and the catalysts that determine what people are experiencing and so forth.. and I just wanted to try to get someone to bring reality to my imagination....

Some day, when the music thing is done with, I will write scripts and I will get paid for others to reenacte what happens in my imagination..
Peace.

Hahah, I have seen a little bit of Jackass but not that one, seems like something they'd do though. I thought of another experiment I'd like to try. Go downtown at a busy time of day (either when clubs get out or right around noon) and stand completely still in the middle of a really busy sidewalk. Everyone else around me would be hustling and pushing to get where they're going and I'd be doing precisely the opposite. Maybe people would even stop to try and talk to me (I'd remain silent of course) or poke me, or just watch me stand completely still. I'd have to practice though, I can't even win a staring contest, I always start giggling.
