It's not that I have any problem promoting illegal activities (at least when the laws they're breaking are complete bullshit) - if I did, this site would have maybe one document on where to find mushroom in Holland and that's about it. But it seems to me that creating a forum specifically dedicated to getting contraband past customs is positively begging for trouble. When (not if, when) someone gets caught for this, they won't only have to take the rap, but certainly NightChild, Aphex, myself, Andrew Edmond, the Lycaeum, and everyone who's ever visited any of those pages can be made indirectly responsible through the brilliant rhetoric of lawyers. What better argument for infringing on our first amendment than that we are actively promoting illegal activity to the point where we are making available a list of people who will assist you in breaking the law? More practically, I'm not looking forward to what I imagine would be an inevitable United States vs. The Shroomery lawsuit. I imagine that after several appeals we'd win and it could be a good opportunity to get a decisive ruling in our favor, but I'm 16 years old and have less than no desire to be the defendant in a federal court case. I can't speak for NC or Aphex, but I'll bet they feel the same.

Keep in mind this isn't a veto - I'm just giving feedback like everyone else at this point. Like I said, I think the idea's great and if there is a way to pull it off, I'm 100% for it. But think over my comments. It might be more trouble than it's worth. Certainly, if people want to find mushroom enthusiasts in other countries who will assist them in slipping a package past customs, they can do so with the currently available resources on the Shroomery and Usenet, without involving more people than the sender and reciever.
