popcorn - what does a fully colonized jar look like?
    #1973617 - 10/02/03 07:37 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

My cat has got some jars of popcorn colonizing. Things are looking pretty good, but he's a bit unsure exactly when it's ready. At this point the individual kennels are covered in mycelium, but it hasn't formed an interlocking network as it does with BRF. He's unsure if it's even supposed to do that.

I've tried the search and found a good thread posted by Lloyd, but none of his pics download for me. I'd much appreciate it if someone could re-post a pic of a fully colonized jar of popcorn (or direct me toward one) so we can see how it's supposed to look.

Lloyd's post

thanks

once it looks done, wait a week or so to make sure, my friends use cracked corn which does form a network, but in their previous, very limited experience with whole pc it did not form networks. just make sure it has penetrated the kernels thruout and in the middle of the jar, then have fun! good luck

this was taken shortly after shaking, you can see the myc covering the kernals. Before shaking it was very fuzzy.

Here you go. This is not a jar but our new corn based mycobag with Oyster mycelium growing.

I'm confused. Why did you shake a fully colonized jar and post a pic?

Pcorn can be kinda weird. Sometimes it fills in real slow, but thick and dense. Sometimes it spreads quickly but then takes it's sweet ass time consolidating and thickening up.

You want to give it plenty of extra time to thicken up or when you spawn it you'll get a big stinky mess. The popcorn really needs to be fully consolidated.

The other thing about popcorn is you can sometimes get some strangely uneven pinning, no well defined first flush.

But I have had a lot of good results with it. Not that I recommend it. These days I go with pennington's bird kote wbs from wally world.

I'm only laughing at the fact that this thread is 5 years old!

And My results are not mediocre.

This is what happens w/ rye!

<- 2.2 cracker!

and I would have noticed an old thread because I do not have add.

P.s. POPCORN SUX!!! FYI.

So you resurrected a 7 year old thread and then laughed at yourself about it? Or laughing at me for replying to you?

Retarded either way.

I don't get it.
