I have 4 in bloom right now and 3 with spikes. I'll post some more photos of the other ones later. They make for some great photos!

You have a great environment for them in FL tmethyl. You should try and do some tree mounted orchids. Those are pretty awesome.

Fucking nice! It takes some serious skill to make an inky cap that appealing.

Whoa

Is that field of stumps perfified??

Wicked shots and gorgeous scenery :hatsoff:

Where abouts are all those cool rock formations and rivers?

The field of stumps is just an empty lake, they're not petrified. All the shots are from Pinecrest Lake, CA. The river that pours into it is the south fork of the Stanislaus.

My new lens shipped Wednesday. Nothing too epic so far, but I'm at least getting some animals to show up in the frame now. Not bad for just a couple days work.

Those are some epic bird pictures  :hi5:

That one with the goose with the tongue out is hilarious.

That yellow bird with the beard is pretty rad too.

Thanks. The geese are characters. Plus it's the season of love and all the animals are acting like ass-hats(myself included:tongue:)

The yellow one is an Eastern Meadowlark. Freaking gorgeous.

Every time I see your posts I just think about how much I want a new lens. I tried taking some bird photos this past week but it's pretty much impossible with my current setup.

Excellent work DG, that Buffalo/Bison shot is my favorite.
The shot with the bridge makes me jealous Ran-D.

My latest stuff, been doing a lot of night hiking.

But first, anyone ever seen a marijuana seed up-close?

And now:

Found these in some sandy soil.

Firefly

In this photo you can see he light painted for me near his head.

Whoa cool firefly shots! I've seen fireflies light up in the sky at night a decent amount but never knew what one actually looked like until now.

Holy macro! Well done.

How are you getting that DOF? I know how to increase DOF, but it never seems to get the results I want.

Well getting a deep DOF with a 100mm is quite difficult.
2 main things as you know, your f/ and distance from subject augment DOF.
So you can use the latter of that sentence to your advantage by shooting in your largest resolution (I prefer RAW)
then cropping the photo closer to the subject. This means you were further from your subject and still get a close-up with great quality with cropping.

Am I the only one who doesn't shoot in RAW? I found it wayyy too much trouble to edit them and convert them and all that nonsense.

I've actually been trying to implement this strategy lately. It's still not easy with the extension tubes to get the shutter speed needed for insects or something like a flower in the wind.

I can usually manage fairly well in bright daylight, but it's hard to scrub out those harsh shadows.
