how cold is too cold?
    #1969447 - 10/01/03 02:45 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I currently have all 12 of my cakes in my terarrium and everything is going well. My concern here is heat. My setup lacks a heater and winter is coming SOON(i looked out my window this morning to see snow)
I would guess that it is at most times somwhere between 60-85degrees.
So my questions are as follows: Should i really be worried about it? After all they ARE fruiting. But suppose it is a little too cold, what will happen because of that? And if i do buy a heater, what kind should i buy? And should i set it up outside or inside my terarrium? Any and all opinions and comments are welcome. THANKS!

60 is too cold. Between 70 and 80 depending on species. Around 70 to 75 for cub., 80 for Mexicana.

Optimum temps for fruiting are the low to mid seventies F. If they are a little chilly (in the 60's F) they will still fruit, just more slowly. The good news is that your contam risk at that temperature is also lowered.
