has anyone ever tried using this heater as an incunator? it is 7.5 watts, for 2-5 gallons...

As long as you don't have to heat alot of water and as long as you can set it between 80*-86*F you should be ok. Just remember, your mostly worried about keeping the temp in your incubator a steady 80*-86*F. I try to keep mine at 85*F.

Someone got that heater from *mart for like 6-7 bucks. its actually advertised for like 5-15 gallons or something like that (more than 2-5 though.)

Your not supposed to fully submerge this type of heater, or "it will power down forever" the manual states. Theres a soft plastic boot on the top BELOW the submerge line. Someone moved the plastic boot up, to see what kind of seal they had going - and the whole element popped out, and the dust inside that disburses the heat or whatever, comes flying out all over.. heh.

So anyhow, after repairing it and hot glueing it back together,
someone shot it in a large freezer bag with the top folded up the side of the bottom bin - in hopes water wouldnt reach it directly. It worked, but it wouldnt raise the temp inside the bins to more than 4 degrees above the exterior ambient temp. Its too small.

Right now, someone has it inside a ziplock (around a quart) filled with perlite, then wrapped with alum foil, then put in the bin in a towel. This raises the temp considerably, up to 10 degrees F.

This tiny heater would work great on evap humidification for fruiting chamber or whatever -- just shoot it in a glass or jar of water, and set in location.
