What kinds of edible mushrooms grow good with Pf-Tek?

None that I know of. I tried growing elm oysters on cased corn and got weak corral looking growths.

Could the coral type growth have just be CO2?
I imagine brown rice flour would fruit a bunch of species, including Pleurotus.
Kinda small scale tho.

Possibly, but I set one out in an open room, not in a terrarium, and got wimpy growths from that too, not as corraly, but still wimpy.

The elm oyster mycelium seemed to squeeze all the moisture out of the corn.

BRF does not support pleurotus fruitings, i've tried it.

I got out of 6 cakes, less than a meals worth.

sorry.

I dont have access to GGMM at the moment, but is brf in the substrate nutrient comparisons near the back? You wouldnt expect it to be but if it is compare it to straw etc.

I'm telling you my experience. I've done it.

Maybe you'll have different results. I don't care to check my copy, as BRF is not in there. Brown rice may be, though. Which would be the same thing. Just decomposes faster.

I'm guessing that it needs more cellulose than grain has to offer.

It might work better if you replaced most of the vermiculite with sawdust.

Yeah, they do.
Did yours look like that Raadt?
If it happens to all then it could be that mutie look is due to substrate rather than C02, eh?

I grew a commercial oyster set on straw mixed with some birdseed a while back (what can I say I was a newb... the birdseed wasent working so i threw it in the straw and stirred.) and all I got was big white clouds (like yours) and lots of dark pools of spore water up against the plastic on the sides... I found out later from The mush. cultivator that this is an asexual (aka non fruit) way that Pleurotus can sometimes attempt to spread itself to a more suitable media. apperently Pleurotus growing on petri dishes does this all the time.

I got similar results, mine were less spindly, but looked about the same size.

I think it's a combination of both.

I don't understand what you mean. I use straw to grow oyster mushrooms.

I was talking about how I threw in the birdseed with the straw.

straw is most likely an ideal substrate for oysters... however, because they are very oxegen sensitive and mine didn't likely get enough or in the right way, they had to fight off a couple of contams through their growth, and the straw was also not compacted well enough... a straw log does a really good job of replicating a real tree to an oyster, and thats why they work. a tupperware of loose straw with some bits of oyster that I pretty much just tore up and threw into some boiled ALFALFA did NOT have the right growth conditions for a good success. anyway, whatever it was that i did wrong, I sure had a heck had a lot of fun doing it, and learned A LOT about the growth cycle of mushrooms.
