Stop Congress From Stripping Away Your Financial Privacy
    #1966654 - 09/30/03 04:06 PM (20 years, 5 months ago)

From: Matt Howes, National Internet Organizer, ACLU
To: ACLU Action Network Members
Date: September 30, 2003

In reaction to a strong financial privacy law adopted earlier this year
in California, big banks, insurance companies and other financial firms
are pressuring Congress to pass legislation that would set a low
national standard for our financial privacy.

Current federal law allows widespread distribution of your private
information among financial institutions. Under legislation being
considered by the Senate, financial institutions would be able to continue
selling and sharing details of your personal financial life without your
approval. This includes all of the financial and personal information
that banks, mortgage companies and other financial institutions possess.

But some Senators are fighting back. A proposed amendment to the bill
would restrict the amount of information available for sharing and would
allow you to indicate that you do not want your information to be
released.

Take Action! Help ensure your financial records are kept private and
secure.

Nice...I usually get about 3 unsolicited calls a day so I'm all for this. Although, I have to wonder what good it does to send a fax courtesy of the aclu to convince my senator not to be a jackass and vote against this. Do people even listen to the aclu anymore?

The ACLU is leading the fight against the Patriot Act, so there are a lot of people listening to them on that. They still manage to win quite a few court cases, so ya, people still listen to the ACLU.

for every whacky ACLU case, they are usually
arguing about 20 valid ones elsewhere.

they seem extreme sometime, but it's a matter
of principle.

Bullshit. They consistently support leftist causes under the guise of protecting free speech. Why aren't they protecting the rights of Christians to practice their religion across the country. The ACLU used to be a great organization before they were taken over by wacko leftists.
