Perhaps. Though I don't see it going away anytime soon considering it's use as a fairly anonymous (if the proper precautions are taken) currency. And given how popular it is in certain darker corners of the net.
Either way I have made a ton of money off this "fad" though. And I continue to do so.

If you want to continue to speculate in a commodity go for it. I note you measure your profitability in real currencies, though.

It would be foolhardy to invest 100% in anything. Diversity is key.

Diversity is key to safety, not necessarily profitability.

probably the more advertisement it receives the more it will dissapear from the hands of the simpletons. for example like the atm bitcoin machine they're talking about, stuff like that. probably our best bet is to keep it out of sight, but not out of word.

That is a far cry from making him a "great" man and doing the world a great service, and even less so did is the chance that he actually started a change in anything. It might possibly lead to other types of currency that can be used on the dark net and in other ways but I still don't see it ever becoming something widely popular or anything besides a "fad" like ZiG said.
Either way, if that story is true the journalist is still a scumbag.

The dark net / crypto-coin pairing has already changed drug delivery in a huge way. There are now countless darknet sites and vendors selling all over the dark web, whereas before it was all kept in very tight closed circles due to the need for trust since western union / paypal was used.

Seriously, its only a fad if the internet goes down. One currency may change for another but that box isn't going to close, and there is a shit ton of money already circulating.

I suppose... I'll believe it when I'm older I guess.. Either way, I'm not complaining about bitcoins considering that I had a really fun year because of them.

You can order a kilo of MDMA, a few grams of LSD, a few grams of fentanyl, a few guns to your house if you have the BTCs. That was a lot harder a few years ago, and there was no escrow either.

I remember when they said the internet was "just a fad." And look where the internet is today.

Things with actual utility aren't generally just fads. Hell, even if bitcoin fades away it will only be because it was replace by a superior online currency.
