Most Helpfull Book?
    #1966097 - 09/30/03 03:10 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I was searching around and have accumulated a lot of different opinions about "Mushroom Cultivating Books" and was just curious as to which most of you (all) find most use full and help full. I am lead to assume that it is one of P. Stamets works, but not sure. I was going to start a poll but that would limit the amount of choices one would have to choose to the small number of books that I currently know of. So if you (everyone interested) could just leave a title/author and a statement why this is one of their favorite books ("Mushroom Cultivation") that would be much appreciated.

I have both, recommend the first one by far over the second for the casual cultivator of either magic or not mushrooms. The second book is quite interesting and covers more kinds and goes into greater depth, but doesn't cover the basics of agar, spawn prep, etc nearly as well.

One more vote for TMC , best investment a serious cultivator could make .

Awsome, I guess that pretty much sums it up, The Mushroom Cultivator it is, but by no means stop comments on these great books.

What about "Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms" - 3rd Edition by Stamets? Its was produced in 2000 compared to 1983 when "TMC" was made. Does anyone have this book and have anything to say about it?

i have it. it's magnificent - lots more detail on the fancy edibles and pretty much every aspect of our hobby. also not really any repetition of the TMC stuff, which it refers to throughout.

 if you can afford it, treat yourself.
