Thank you All

Agar works great in those zip locs. They come very clean and i usually get >95% success after the pour. they stay sterile at least several months after pouring.

downside is that they can melt easily and slightly more awkward to work with.

I've used probably more than 4 hundred zip-locs, they are so cheap and convenient that i do agar a lot more often than when i used petri dishes.

Are the insides of plastic bags sterile?

Yes, new ziplock bags are sterile until you open them.
