    #1963494 - 09/29/03 07:10 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Check out these strom totals
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/radar/loop/DS.80stp/si.ktbw.shtml

Looks like the shrooms will be poppin soon, only prolbem is I have no idea where any fields are south of the sunshine skyway bridge. Could any hunters give me a general idea where some good cow fields are?

Any luck with pickings? I went today in Gainesville with no luck at all.. I'm thinking it's definately not the season... Anyone have experience with picking florida shrooms past October?

It's season. Cube season is almost year round in Florida.

I've heard differently-- I know people in Gainesville who says it's hard to find after mid August. Am I right that the temp needs to be roughly above 75+ and humidity 85+ (with recent rainfall)?

the humidity doesn't have to be that high during the day. i'd imagine it can even be a bit lower if there's adequate begetation to provide a microclimate of higher RH localy.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Few days? I thought it was immediately, within a few hourss, or POSSIBLY the next day (Depending on the sun,etc)-- we had a vast rain shower just 2 days before hunting, and there were no shrooms growing.

Depends on what area of the state you're in. In winter, the north FL region is much less productive but as ya go to the southern counties, there are more & more.
I had lots of luck last week. Went out several times & got a few pounds. We made some chocolates last nite from them(semi-sweet is the best choc to use, milk choc doesn't hide the taste so well). They were perfect!
As long as there is a bit of dew there is usually enough moisture to grow 'em. Tall green grass is the best places to look on drier days.
