I've heard that the some farmers feed oranges that don't make the grade for consumption will get dumped in pastures for the cows and this hinders their poop from producing mushrooms. I'm not sure if it's true does anyone have any ideas or heard of this as a prevention?

I see mushrooms in cow dung in California, just not actives. Farmers have no reason to prevent hunters considering cubensis and Pan cyans don't grow here.

That's a half truth: Ranchers will very often take flat-beds full of nasty citrus and leave it for the cattle. However, it does next to nothing at all to hinder growth.
For instance, the most recent photos I posted on this thread turned out to be a huge haul and the herd was fed citrus all harvest season long. I am often in old groves with cattle on them and I see many varieties of fungi (to include actives) growing from dung.

Hello all. I've been browsing this site for a while now and just recently got into hunting. For the past two years I've enjoyed my experiences with mushrooms and have recently taken up the hobby of finding them myself. I have a few spots in Brevard and Osceola that I know of and I've been a dozen or so times. The problem is that I only know how to confidently identify psilosybin cube sis as of right now. Very much a beginner but am loving my new hobby. I went yesterday afternoon and found a few, though a bit scarce. I'm trying to post pictures bit am having a lot of trouble doing it from my phone. I'll keep trying. Great to be here!

It's Panaeolus antillarum, not active.

That's great I grew up in Indian River county area so I trust your knowledge. My father was a Fl,State Inspector of Citrus and that where the propaganda starts...

I went out last night to a pasture in Central Florida for some hunting but I did not find anything. I am fairly certain I was in a cow pasture, I didn't see any cows but there were clumps of very dark brownish blackish hardened mud. I only say mud cause I won't guarantee that they were dung but I assumed they were cause I don't know what else they could be. Could this dung be too old or maybe it wasn't dung. I'm not sure some tips on how to scout out a good field would be nice.

I'm stoked. Went out a few hours ago and found about a dozen cubes. Scarce but I was determined. Can't wait to study my specimen tomorrow :-). They're out there :-)

HELLO !
My fellow hunter and I just came back from a mid-day hike. Looking for you guys to help identify some of the ones we found. Great day to be out with the rain past in CFL. I am pretty sure the ones on the bottom are all Cubes but I was really wanting to make sure because this is my first ever pick! It was a blast and I found about 8 different kinds, these were the ones I really wanted to make sure about though.

The Panaeolus are P. papilionaceus sensu lato, and they are not active.
