To antidrug readers * 1
    #18926115 - 10/03/13 02:22 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

The United States needs to legalize all recreational drugs immediately because America is in danger.

If America continues to pay for huge trade deficits, part of the budget deficit, and interest on the foreign debts, the United States will suffer an economic collapse and become a weak nation, leaving China as the only remaining superpower and ruler of the new world order.

The crisis was created by the corporations exporting jobs and destroying millions of small businesses, and could be corrected if they rapidly expanded the number of industrial jobs in the United States. President Obama asked them to do just that, but they have refused.

Legalizing drugs would help by eliminating the massive costs of arresting and imprisoning people for drug related so called crimes.

In addition, not being in jail, those prisoners could work in the ordinary economy and would pay taxes. So there would be a major total reduction in costs to federal, state, and local budgets.

The majority of people don't get themselves into trouble with drugs, but a small percentage do. To solve that problem, a small tax om legal recreational drug sales could be earmarked for medical research to create good quality treatments for the people who do get themselves into trouble with drugs.

So legalizing the drugs and doing the medical research would completely solve the problem of the minority who get themselves in trouble with drug.

Opposition to legalizing drugs wouldn't be precisely treason to the United States, but it would still damage America as much as treason would do.

The United States is in danger, so we need to free up as much in government budgets as possible.

Jim

Dude, the government doesn't care. Part of the government is shut down right now too, it's not the fact that they are going about things in the wrong way, it's how weak of an integrity the government has right now.

You have some good facts, but out government is too selfish and self absorbed to do any good. Fuck em'.

"To anti drug readers"
Aiming at the wrong crowd. This is the shroomery, not going to find many of those here. It's like gung going to a gun enthusiast website addressing anti 2nd amendment readers.

Fuck prohibitions, but I don't believe it is the root of our downfall as a nation

I think we should cut all the social parasites from their welfare checks. Then they will either find a means to support themselves or starve to death, either of wich is good for the economy and society.

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

The DEA's annual budget is $3 billion.  Total federal prison budget is another $8.5 billion.  Even assuming every prisoner is in for drugs, that comes to $11.5 billion per year total.

Even if legalization cut that to zero, it would be a drop in the bucket to the budget.  It wouldn't even amount to 1% of the deficit.

Actually, the government officials do care. The stand-off is because both parties care about different things.

There are also costs in lost productivity of people whose career possibilities are ruined by being in prison. If each of a million prisoners could have contributed $50,000 per year to the economy if their career paths had not been ruined, and this is for 40 years, then that is 2 million dollars in lifetime productivity loss times one million prisoners equals 2 trillion dollars in total lifetime productivity loss. And over time, more than a million people end up in prison due to drug so-called crimes.

What is needed is for the public to become aware of the points in this thread. If the idea is good enough, the members of this message board could easily word this better and send it out to all their contracts to be forwarded to the contacts of those people.

The question is whether or not you think the idea is good enough.

Your numbers are imaginary, though.

There are less than a million people in prison in the US for drug offenses.  Federally, there are just over 100,000.

Of the people in prison for drug offenses, most have never made $50k in a year and never will because the kind of person who gets into the drug trade isn't likely to be a very productive member of society anyway.

Most drug dealers live with their parents.

The war on drugs, while ineffective and inappropriate, is not a huge fiscal drain.

From an Imperialist perspective, we need a certain amount of recreational drugs to keep things peaceful in our own house.

The people who smoke pot are usually not the ones stockpiling weapons and organizing complex, militant plots against the Federal Government, which is needed to keep world peace.

I know the idea of fighting against Imperialism, and promoting Anarchy sounds cool, however if the Government were to collapse, the Great Powers would go to war, and likely criminals and fanatics would patrol as the de facto governments of the Streets.

If you think Obama is harsh on gun rights, wait till you see what the Russian and Chinese governments have in mind.

A real Dictator would make Obama look like the biggest pro-gun advocate since Charleston Heston.

1) Once congressmen figure out a way to wet their beaks in the profits of the legal drug trade,  without their constituents caring about 'evil drugs' then there will be bills for legal drugs introduced in congress faster than flies settle on a pile of fresh dog shit.
