i have no aspirations of being a patriot, and no, i don't approve of the direction we're moving in.
you do know that 4 out of 5 of the "intolerable acts" that caused the american revolution HAVE BEEN REPEATED RIGHT???????????
you really should just put that in your sig. it'll save you a good bit of effort.
I have always been a canadian that thought the way america started was cool, and the way its ended up is SICK

Probably, but that's okay, cuz you guys will just jump on it and tear it to shreds without having read it either. I'm sure there will be some "editorial" on www.nukebabywhalesforjesus.com that you will all be able to quote and link to ad nauseum, and for you, that will be all the proof you need that he's just another whining liberal asshole who shouldn't be allowed to speak.

LMAO.. that was a good one, Gern.
Leary, Ill be reading it. It looks fantastic as all of Moore's previous work has been. Also, if you like Mr. Moore, you should really check out Jim Hightower. I think you will like him even more and frankly, his ideas are so sound and commonsense that even the hatemongers on this board shouldnt be able to fuck with positive posts about him.
Moore is a baby populist. Hightower is a grandaddy populist.

So Moore lies and misleads and you think he's cool.
Yet according to you Bush lies and misleads and he isn't.
Interesting.

With "Roger and Me" Michael Moore helped get Roger Smith to step down after moving most of GM's American manufacturing to Mexico.
He got K-MART to stop selling bullets in America.
Moore's "TV Nation" paved the way for comic news shows like America's "The Daily Show".
Oh yeah, the Cannes film festival had to invent an award for "Bowling for Collumbine" because they had never given an award to a documentary.
And, let's not forget his Oscar (as if one could forget THAT speech).
You may disagree with Moore's tactics but, he gets results.

Well, I'm smart enough to know not to go head to head with a Michigander.
but...
* I: wrong, most of the American manufacturing is in Michigan. and Moore had nothing to do with Roger smiths situation
How's Flint doing? Roger Smith stepped down within a year of "Roger and Me's" release. Coincidence?
*C: He got K-MART to stop selling bullets in America. *I: wow, the Kmart that is near my neighborhood still sells bullets..hmmpphh.
http://www.freerepublic.com/forum/a3b3bd3b42fd7.htm My bad, just handgun bullets. Handguns aren't used in hunting. Handguns were invented to kill people.
*C: Moore's "TV Nation" paved the way for comic news shows like America's "The Daily Show". *I: so what.
Is that a question or a statement eminem? The Daily Show just won an Emmy.
*C: Oh yeah, the Cannes film festival had to invent an award for "Bowling for Collumbine" because they had never given an award to a documentary.
*I: bowling for columbine is not a documentary.
You're going to tell me it is fiction? That was a great script! How'd he get Chaz Heston to sign?
*C: And, let's not forget his Oscar (as if one could forget THAT speech). *I: i couldn't hear it through all the booing in the audience.
Yeah, he won an Oscar last year... for best DOCUMENTARY. The people who were booing were the same that voted for Moore to win... Americans are weird. Booing a political activist for expressing his opinion... sigh...
*You may disagree with Moore's tactics but, he gets results. *like what? Just wait for his next film... about surly Michiganders... It'll change your life.

Flint is a terrible city, the worst in Michigan actually. Don't get me wrong, i actually enjoyed Roger and Me, it's really bowling for columbine which was a disgrace.

you can hunt with a hand gun, but it's harder. A .45 can take down some big game and be enjoyable for those that target shoot. The handgun to me is for self defense against those that would relieve me of my civil liberties.

many parts of that "movie" were spliced and were slanted so far that my neck hurt after watching it.

they had different opinions and were expressing them. freedom of speech doesn't mean that those you are speaking to have to agree nor does it mean that they have to listen.

All of Moore's movies are edited out of sequence. They give the impression that things happen in a different order than they actually did. This pisses a lot of people off but his documentaries are politically motivated. Most documentaries report things as they happen. Like him or not, Moore uses a different format... an editorial documentary. Many people think a documentary should be more neutral than Moore's take on the genre.
He uses his material to make a point rather than to report the sequence of events. Over time, people have come to accept this form of documentary but Moore will eventually shoot himself in the foot if he keeps doing documentaries out of sequence.
Now, as for "The Daily Show," my original point was this: Without Moore's TV Nation, there would be no "Daily Show." "The Daily Show" borrows more from TV Nation than it borrows from SNL's "Weekend Update."
*i'm guessing it's (Moore's next movie) going to be aboot some rich white guy.
You may be more right than you think. I heard his next show is about George W. Bush.

Oh yes, and as for handguns. Sure you can hunt with them. I have (either the gun sucked... or I did). They were designed for close quarters combat and haven't evolved much since they were conceived... well, they aren't very versitile. Sure, they've evolved. Granted, a handgun will teach you how to aim a larger gun.
You said yourself, your handgun is there to protect your from those who would relieve you of your civil liberties (fascists?). Sounds like you don't plan on using it for deer hunting anytime soon. Handguns ARE fun when used for target practice.
As human killers, handguns work too well. They are easy to obtain and hide in an urban environment.
Most people use handguns responsibly... yes. But handguns ARE the guns that kill people in citys. Who was the last person shot and killed with a rifle in NYC?
Most people aren't murdered with bolt action rifles (Kennedy was a fluke). They are killed with semi-automatic hand guns.
Eliminate hand guns, and you eliminate, at least, 50% of America's gun murders.
Handguns don't save as many lives in a year as they take (Have you ever seen this headline: "Man Saved By Handgun"?)... and people still use them for protection.

not facists, just those that would take from me which is mine. ie: life and possessions

Not while i have a compound bow or a rifle. I know you can kill people with it but that's up to the person who owns it. Many buy for target shooting competitions.

can you imagine how nice it would be if they just enforced those laws that are on the books? Moore would have more credibility if he took that route.

eliminating handguns is a eutopian dream. If it could be possible to eliminate ALL guns then i'd believe it. Gun laws that restrict the rights of those responsible gun owners will not effect those criminals that would NEVER get rid of their guns because they are just that criminals.

The problem is with unregistered handguns, and yes, those would be tough (impossible) to eliminate.

'Twas a joke.
Let me explain... No. There is no time. Let me sum up.
How did the criminal know who had guns and who didn't?
Someone had to tell him.
My advice to all people who don't own handguns is this: Don't tell criminals you are unarmed.
hahahaha get it?

In a society that bans guns the only ones who would have them would be the criminals because the ones that follow the law are those that would of turned them in ie: the houses on the left.
If i was a criminal i'd go to the places where they outlaw guns because the odds are i wouldn't be running into someone brandishing one during my shopping spree through their house.
in the future it might help to say you're joking because i've seen many on this site who would use that as an example and actually mean it.

I'd just like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that most documentaries are biased towards some ultimate conclusion, whether its "drugs are bad for you", or "The lack of a blue shift indicates the universe will die a cold death", or "There is too much soviet uranium floating around the black market" or "the region between pakistan and afghanistan is crawling with terrorists"
documentaries represent facts but they also generally have a thesis, some point they are trying to prove.

True, true. If documentaries want to tell a story, it helps to have a thesis. Simple fact reporting wouldn't be cinematic.
Michael Moore is different. He is a visible character inside his documentaries. He actively does things to manipulate the plot of his movies. Traditional documentarians aren't as visible within their documentaries as Moore is in his.
This makes his documentaries different. I think this is part of the reason why Roger and Me wasn't nominated for best documentary. Moore had to get documentarians to accept his changes in their format.

Actually, depending on the study, handguns are used well over a million times a year to prevent crimes. Even if only 1/2 of 1% of those save a life, it's still by far the majority.

Fargo Proscript
"This is a true story."
"The events depicted in this film took place in Minnesota in 1987."
"At the request of the survivors, The names have been changed."
"Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occoured."
Gotta' love them Cohen Bros. They lied about their movie in the first frame to make it feel more real. No events in Minnesota history (or American history for that matter) resemble the ones depected in "Fargo." One of the greatest gags in cinematic history.
And it is my favorite documentary of all time.

*Actually, depending on the study, handguns are used well over a million times a year to prevent crimes. Even if only 1/2 of 1% of those save a life, it's still by far the majority. Wait a minute. Handguns are used over a million times a year to prevent crimes? How do you know?
If the crime wasn't committed, it wasn't committed. Who's to say a handgun prevented it? P. Diddy?
This "Study" studies things that didn't happen. The only thing it proves (If such a study exists) is handguns are drawn a lot... and when drawn, the person who draws the gun thinks they prevented a crime. How heroic.
Handguns ARE used to commit crimes. Studies are readily available showing how often crimes are committed with handguns. These studies are, also, valid. They study things that actually happened.
