70cc Feeding Syringe
    #1960820 - 09/28/03 09:38 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

A friend was wondering if it would be possibe to use 1 of these large syringes (70cc) in the mycelium innoculation tek. Ofcourse you would have to drill a hole in the lid large enough for the syringe to fit, but would it be possile to use this and innoculate many jars immediatley after drawing the cultured mycelium? Would there be any problems to look out for? Any help would be good. Thanks

Also is there any way to put a 1 way stopper in the hole drilled in the top of a 1 quart jar? That way you could insert the syringe, once the needle can't reach the mycelium h20 anymore, and turn it upside down in order to remove all of the mycelium juice. Is there somthing simple that will serve its purpose in this feat?

The most obvious drawback I see is that it'd be far too easy to slip on the plunger and shoot way too much. Also, of course, it puts a lot of eggs into one basket, so to speak.

Syringes can be puschased easily online. All varieties (needle guage, size) are available. PM me if you are still having trouble. That feeding syringe is just asking for contamination.

Yah it might be risky, but the main question a foaf has is can you use just one syringe for the innoculation of many jars (25+) all at on time, or would it be better to use many syringes? In my opinion I think my friend would feel more comfortable "putting all of his eggs in one basket" simply because he feels very comfortable with his setup. He believes that using more syringes is an unnecessary step that in itself could be the cause of contamination. I guess he was just wondering also which type of syringe would be best for his needs. This was the first big syringe he came across. How much would a nicer, safer type of syringe like this cost? Thanks again.

About $29.99 for 100 12cc pre-sterilized 18g syringes. Two 12cc's should be more than enough for 25+ jars at a time, plus you'd use a needle and have a much better success rate.
