Mexico's top drug lord Joaquin 'Shorty' Guzman arrested
Breaking news
Mexican police say they have arrested the country's most wanted drug lord, Joaquin Guzman, known as El Chapo or Shorty.
He was the leader of the Sinaloa cartel, which smuggles huge amounts of illegal drugs into the US.
Shorty Guzman had been on the run since escaping a high security prison in a laundry basket in 2001.
He was arrested in Sinaloa state, in a joint operation with United States anti-drugs forces.
The US state department had offered a reward of up to $5m (£3.2m) for information leading to his arrest.

I'm wondering if they really got him or if it was someone else. I'm guessing cause US authorities were involved it was him. Going to be a power struggle is my guess.

I remember reading about this guy, there are some insane aspects of his life. Off the top of my head: He was once listed as like the 60th wealthiest man in the world, worth several billion dollars. He had his own private army in Mexico. He once stayed in the mansion of the governor of a province for several weeks, while Mexican police and the DEA were looking for him. Something like 70 prison employees and officials were implicated in helping his "escape" in 2001.

This guy was known to go high-end resteraunts in Mexico and have his henchmen collect everyones cell phone (for security purposes), but in the end you got your phone back and your meal paid for. That would make for an interesting albeit free dinner!

I don't know if I would enjoy being held hostage by armed guards so some prick could eat there. It would probably be terrifying. The guy has done some horrible things, I wouldn't want to see him face to face.

Why is it that harmless people like Marc Emery get extradited to the US, and violent drug lords like El Chapo get to stay in Mexican prisons where they can just buy their freedom back? And yeah, someone is going to replace him. He's already been replaced, at least temporarily.
