Ratio Question
    #19597356 - 02/20/14 11:03 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hello,

I've read this site and searched, but couldn't find this answer.  Has anyone ever found a ratio between substrate to yield?  IE: 1 cm3 bulk substrate = x dry grams?  Is this a possible ratio to be found?

Kayhman

I don't believe there is such thing be cause having a multi spore you are not sure of the genetics you are gonna have.

I can't give you an exact answer, but the term you're looking for is "Biological Efficiency".

From what I've read, a cube is a cube.  I had hoped someone would have compiled an avg. ratio, bulk substrate to dry volume.

A cube is a cube but a strain is the paring of two spores, so in a MS(from spore) grow you have 1000s of strains working together as a single organism you'll get vary different results from grow to grow. A cube is a cube in that they all have the genetic possibilities to produce a fast, potent, etc strain, A single strain is an isolate it's the result of only two hyphae(what a spore makes) which may have hit the genetic lottery. So you could have shit genetics or awesome ones and anything in between.

BE is normally given in percentages, of dry substrate to wet yield.
So if a pound of dry rye produces a pound of wet mushies it's been 100% Biologically efficient.
Avg yield can be anywhere from 50% to 100% but can reach 200% or contam and produce 1% it depends on conditions, substrate and genetics.
None of this factors in the ratio of water to fiber when drying.
