Its not a mineral though. Rock is what I need.

Coco is kind of inorganic, it's completely inert, technically a form of hydroponics used by itself or with other inert ingredients like perlite. It won't add anything to the mix nutrients wise, just hold a little bit of moisture. I think this is a great idea and I'll probably start planting my globulars in something like what intelligentlife suggested. I've been replanting all of my Trichs in 50/50 Coco/Perlite. I'm going to figure out a nutrient plant to make them grow as fast as possible, hopefully not sacrificing thickness though.
I would mix some sand/soil/rocks for trichs also..Their habitat soil is very mineral based soil.
Coco coir I use just because it holds water good and prevent small grain sand packing too tight.
Coir is good mixture to add, still I would use rocks or big grain sand to any cactus plant. I grow chili, cannabis and other plants also in same soil I grow cactus plants, but I use lots of more fertilizers for them. Sometimes for chili plants, I just add my own mixed cactus soil ~50-80% and rest very black and rich new soil.
Cannabis plants I grow now are in same soil what I use for trichs, only bigger rocks are removed and more coco coir added. Also ofc fertilizing are different.
I have seen nurseries grow their plants with fertilizers and 50/50 coco/perlite growing medium, but that growing medium lack minerals so for trichs, just add some sand to mix to make soil good for them. Even trichs grow in rich soil, it's still very mineral and sandy soil in habitat.

So after years of not growing in soil they are growing in rock. Note the new growth. The strobiliformis is amazing. I hope I finally get to see these flower. Never have but its never too late.

Fuck the "New Age", join the rock revolution.

I've read they need a lot of water to flower, bear that in mind. Good luck.

Ferrel: Try one thing, Add small amount of coco coir with rocks, it holds water but plants can use rocks as minerals as well. I like to use coco coir for tap root plants and some other, it holds water enough but dries fast also.
I have seen lots commercial growers use only coco coir, well I don't like use coco coir alone but it's nice substrate to mix along rocks and around roots underground of the rocky growing medium. It's not maybe so natural but I see it have good potential when mixed to rocks. For seedlings they can grow in coco coir all their first year, anyway older plant, I use less amount of coco coir and more rocks with perlite.

Good to know hermano. I usually leave buckets about when it rains. I dont let my babies get too wet.

I see where you are coming from intelligent but it defeats the purpose of solely growing on rock.

Under that jourd button is a tiny root. The cluster of rock has completely overtaken it.

My rock babies. Astros, strombos, aztekium and a couple others i cant remember off the top of my head.

The rock family is doing amazing. So soon and i can see a massive difference from one substrate to the next. I have sent out some rock mix to some members and i cant wait to see what they pot up.

I basically did this without knowing what I was doing, I was living in Colorado about a year ago and just went out to a hill side that had cacti growing on it and harvested the "soil" which was basically decomposed granite with other eroded rocks of varying size down to sand. I started my seedlings (T peruvianus) with this and they are growing very nicely....
I'll post some pics when I get the chance
I'm definitely down with the stone age
