Too bad you guys called animal control. Rattlers are damn tasty. The beauty in bloodworms pic coulda fed my whole house hahaa

All the meat is on the ribs and backstrap, just slice longs strips, season and salt well, little butter or oil. Wrap the meat strips around a damp stick and roast over the campfire. Good shit.

damn. that sounds hella good. i imagine the ribs get annoying through like in fish.

now i want to eat me some snake!

Their ribs are much thicker than fish and less elastic.
Preparing them is a lot like gutting a fish but easier cuz you just pull the skin off. The taste is honestly most comparable to wild hen or grouse i think. It would probably taste more fish like in wtter habitats id imagine

IF you skin and fillet a snake right, its about as easy to prepare as an eel...
It'll be bone free if you do it right.
But the body is slow to die, which sometimes makes it a bit tricky, and creepy.

You've definitely got some f***** up animals there... between poisonous snakes, bears and alligators... which one the worst to find, although in terms of poisonous species I think that Australia must beat them all.

i think snakes are the most dangerous here.

probably followed by spiders or hogs.

spiders do not really scare me though.
they creep me out...but big ass wild boar and snakes...scare the shit out of me.

about 2 1/2 months ago i was about 10 feet away from a 6-700 pound wild boar with tusks, screaming through the woods at about 10 mph.
if he would have hit me...it would have been curtains...
even if i survived...i would have never made it back the 5 or 6 miles before he ate me.

Spiders are certainly not one of the more dangerous things in your woods.

spiders hardly ever bite anyone

spiderbites are the most misdiagnosed bug bites out there

black widows and brown recluse spiders are pretty dangerous man. lol.

not something to really be worried about...but...not something you want to test either.

We have wild boars but I have to say I've never seen one, people hunt them a lot and I guess their population is very decreased on account of that, I think it wouldn't be a nice encounter for my dog though.

But in general, are your snakes aggressive in behavior?

I guess I got it pretty easy where I live.
Only thing that scares me in my woods is
#1.Ticks
#2.Moose
#3.And occasionally a Grizzly bear.
Other then that it's all good.

some rattlesnakes seem to be.
people say cottonmouths are real aggressive.
however, everytime ive seen them they are waiting for to step on them.
pygmy rattlesnakes and corals are probably the most agressive, but may have a hard time biting adults to death.

#1 thing that scares me, Mountain Lions..
-because you usually never see them until its too late... they stalk and are masters at being stealthy... bears, moose, boars, snakes, ticks, etc, None of them stalk their prey with the persistence of a lion, though bears can be very fucking stealthy.. however, if I lived closer to wolves I would be even more afraid of them... Lots of coyotes around here too, but not really worried about them.... all the other critters around here are not worrisome.

I agree with that, you hunt for food and that is legitimate.
What I think is that when some people decide do hunt animals (such as snakes) they should be aware that sometimes they might be killing endangered species and contributing to their decrease in population.

I'm not referring to a situation where you might consider yourself threatened but when hunting just because.

Even more scary is being deep in the forest on a steep densely covered hillside, feeling like you a being stalked, hearing rustling uphill and then thinking there is a mountian lion because of the big fresh hairy-bone-filled-turds I just found.... when it is really just another mushroom hunter trying to lay low bellied-down in the bushes..

But also using old logging roads to access deep areas of forest with known lions, to come back out on the trail you came in on only to discover fresh prints and scat that were not there when you went in... its a bit unnerving.
