i was wondering, what if some chick had some casings (straw pawned with multi-grain, cased with coir/verm/lime) that showed an unnacceptable amount of pin/primordia abortion. y'know, like if her pesa was absolutely covered in pins that never mature, and her malabars aborted after growing and inch or so? the only thing i could think of is that she might have let them go for ~36 hours w/o gas exchange due to whatever lame reason. otherwise i bet she would blow them out with a hepa air purifier 2-3 times a day. would this account for her difficulties?

perlite + occasional misting. i don't know the exact RH, but i'm pretty sure its sufficient.

I dunno, but I thought that the casing provides the sufficient humidity, and you lightly mist to prevent the casing from drying out totally. In my experience, a 36 hour sit without gas exchange wouldnt be too much of a problem. How large are her pins getting?

the pesa pins stalled not too far beyond the knot stage, they're about the size of nerds (candy). the malabars now have a 2nd flush coming up around the abhorts which seem healthy thus far.

The same shit just happened to my Koh Samui casings! It seems as if they got so many pins on them that the mycelium couldn't handle feeding them all and they mostly all aborted. I had like 1000 pins on each casing and about 95% of them aborted. RH, temp and air exchange was all good, I think anyway! Anyone else have any ideas?

my friend is having the same problem with her cake of koh samui. way too many pins so most have to abort. only a few are maturing and getting fat.

With my pets first grow had the SAME problem, although he was using the PF strain which is kinda notorious for that. Anyways, he was getting tons of aborts, biggest shroom he got was about two inches. He thinks that if the cake or casing isn't thougrouly colonized (even though the outside is) that when fruiting occurs they will run out of food and stall. Just his hypothesis. He recommends letting cakes colonize a few more days even after they are completely colonized just so that the mycacelium can get a really good foothold on the substrate, just combat that impatience.

I have an idea. What about getting the cakes patted down really firmly and then sprinkling totally evenly, and then using a little rock garden rake (something a little bigger?) to create valleys for pins to form, and hills to give them some space?

i dunno, my friend's koh samui is currently way too aggressive of a fruiter. there were at least 1000 pins and only about 5 or 6 matured into mature fatties.
in fact, when she pulls a fruit, there are fruiting mushrooms UNDERNEATH the fruits that were just picked. it's like they are stacking up; she even has pins pinning of of other pins - it's fuckin' crazy shit. her cake is a mad free-for-all koh samui rumble - these little fuckers are seriously intense competitors with each other. peace.

my friends dog had some serious issue with malabars abhorting and growing real skinny fruits after massive hyphal knots. Other strains in same fruiting chamber performed well so not quite sure what the issue is. Had this problem before with malabars.
