sometimes we like to negate ourselves
    #1958281 - 09/27/03 10:42 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

it's true, isn't it? we like to blot out part or as much of our existence as we can. it might be from the trivial bornigness - the mundanity which is soul cruching - or it might be a nihilistic - or it might be somethign else, but people in general like to erase from theirminds all elements of what normally concerns them.
likely it is symptomatic of the degree to which the daily life is not engaging the things one cares about most.

Ignorance is bliss eh? Yes, people do like to repress thoughts and feelings that are inconvenient or cast a negative light upon themselves. We've all done it. And most people are probably doing it most the time.
There are many techniques for forcing something into the unconscious.

Alcohol is one of the chief tools. I just got back from a friend of mines after watching a ballgame. I have to force myself to stay over there for any length of time since he is usually drunk and/or high by 9pm and what little possibility for conversation has gone by that point. He lives in a filthy, dark and gloomy apartment, and I feel like part of the furniture when I go there. He makes little effort to give and take in conversation. You could say he has an ungenerous spirit. You could say something like, "I lost my job, my girlfriend, and every cent I had today." and he would keep staring at the tv that's always on, or might start talking about himself or say nothing at all!!

I feel some compassion for him as he has few friends, no job, and no significant relationships in his life. The extent to which he is hiding truth and burying his light is staggering. He is operating at a very low level of awareness, and I wish I could help him.

I decided long ago that I would follow Truth wherever It led, even when painful. There is no end to the faults one finds in oneself, it is an excruciating process, but ultimately rewarding.

The only way to utter happiness and fufillment is to consciously embrace who we are and what we do, especially if it means pulling ourselves out of un-necessary shit that is meaningless and unfufilling...
Peace.

Sometimes it's hard to understand why the great majority of humans on this planet are actively hiding truth from themselves. Finding truth can be a lot of work, but it's worth it. Being more conscious can only increase your chances of getting what you want!!

Step out of the shadows and face the Light.

It's a whole lot easier to be mildly dissatisfied with the monotony of ignorance than it is to go within and live dynamically. I fall into that trap every once in awhile. It's easy to let ego make us apathetic, but how long can we live for mind and soul numbing cheap thrills? I think that most tragedies exist in order to shock us out of our ritualistic bland behaviour. Finding oneself and what is truly important is deeply satisfying after time, but in the beginning its intimidating and awful coz you're bound to find truths you resent.
