Yep. My head almost exploded because hers didn't.
I was not impressed by this movie - which really should have been called Inertia or Momentum, not Gravity. I guess I shouldn't have expected more from big budget Hollywood movie, but I thought maybe this one would be different because it was getting such rave reviews. It certainly wasn't worth $18.
I've been trying not to be very critical of little things in movies that bother me, (ie, "It's just a movie) and there are tons of things in this movie that did from a science perspective (come on, the space debris isn't going to make whooshing sounds as it zooms by. In the first minute of the film it says "there is no air in space, so there is no sound - then they go ahead and make whooshing sounds. Fuck off. Somebody's lying :lol)
My problem with this movie is there was no substance to it. The plot was thin and they didn't build up the characters to any degree. Instead of creating characters you gave a shit about, they seemed to have just said to themselves "all we need is a dead baby, then we can do the dead baby monologue and people will be balling in their seats." Lame. The lady next to me was openly sobbing, and all I could think was how easy it is to manipulate people.
There were only two characters in this entire movie, and they couldn't manage to give either any personality whatsoever.
I laughed and cringed when they had bullock curl up in the fetal position floating in front of the round window of the airlock and there was the hose or rope that looked like it was coming out of her belly button. I think being bludgeoned with sappy symbolism is hilarious.
My review of Gravity: It's a movie.

A story?
I think people like it mostly because it is the perfect subject matter for 3D. And the dead baby.

The 3D wasn't all that amazing, I don't know. I was so psyched about seeing it that I ended up disappointed, you know how that is.

Yep. That's pretty much how I feel. I would have enjoyed it more if people weren't telling me it was "the shit."
OK. I have to nitpick one more thing. No matter what was happening, whether the vehicle was drifting along, or being accelerated by firing the maneuver rockets or entering the atmosphere, that damn helmet was always just floating around like it was immune to the laws of nature.

I just watched this last night and I agree, just a subpar movie all around. The dialog was dull, Clooney was just playing his standard stock character, and the action just seemed really unlikely. I hadn't heard any of the hype about the movie before watching it, and I was pretty surprised to see it got such good reviews.

This movie was amazing. I absolutely loved it. I haven't watched a movie that actually made me go "OH FUCK!" for a long time. It's good to watch a movie that appreciates the silences and quality conversation rather than constant blabbering so we forget the plot sucks.

I have to agree with you. The characters were just not very interesting. However, if they had been written better, if I had cared about them even a little bit, it would have been an absolutely fantastic film.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't think that highly of it, everyone I've talked to about it thought it was some epic masterpiece.
Sandra Bullock's character was terrible! Her dialog was awful, back story was clearly just a ploy to win over a female audience to an otherwise sci fi action and suspense flick, and her acting was as mediocre as it usually is.
Too many errors to list but the biggest one was her character, or lack thereof. I could have gotten over the myriad of unrealistic happenings if it weren't for that.

This movie was horrible but from a artistic and I guess visual point of view it was ok or pretty good. The acting and storyline was retarded.

I think people are way too critical these days about realism. If I wanted complete realism, I would go outside. I watch movies because I want to see crazy beautiful shit. Gravity had holes, but I liked that it gave you time to think about it rather than throwing in more meaningless dialogue than necessary in the hopes to fill in some "plot." My shrooms trips always have a plot, and it's usually nature. The best part is, I enjoy it without any talking, or crazy shit. Just random peacefulness. And that's what I saw in Gravity, chaos in tranquility. If you don't find ways to be happy, and instead pick out whatever you can to be displeased, you will always be just that no matter how hard you try.

I watch movies because I want to be engrossed and entertained. Pretty hard for that to happen when I keep noticing how shitty the acting is.

Personally I do enjoy unbelievable movies plenty, take anything in the James Bond series for example. The action that the movie was based around could easily have happened in a James Bond movie and I would not give a fuck that the action was unbelievable, because it would be carrying a story. In this case though there really wasn't much else to the story IMO.

Very well put, I agree.

It's not about realism, like I said I could get over that if it had good acting and well written characters. One really good acting performance or well written character can save a movie that is lacking in plot, story, realism or spoken word.
Take "All is Lost" for example. Robert Redford did a great job acting for a 2 hour movie that only has a couple lines of dialog. I was able to get over the nonexistent dialog and fact that it was as far from realistic as could be in terms of sailing, because I still wanted him to survive. In Gravity I was kind of hoping Sandra Bullock would die because she was the only character and her acting was not good enough for me to suspend disbelief. Gravity was visually amazing. In every other aspect it sucked. The same can be said about any Michael Bay movie.

Definitely agree dude, I just don't try and pick shit apart. What I liked about it, I liked so I think it's fair enough to save myself some grief and move on from the negative. I'll probably never watch it again, but I enjoyed it.
Wall-E was also a good example of a movie with good character development and well-placed dialogue. Maybe not for the humans, but it was pretty special following their little love story when you had to think about what they feel, rather than be told. Silence is so important in a movie because it gives you time to have your own thoughts. Gravity gave me that so for that I commend it. Walking Dead also does this well.
I think Gravity was far from perfect, but it was different and that means a lot to me when it comes to a movie or tv show I'm watching.

It was interesting in 3d IMAX but long and boring. This should have been a 60 minute movie IMO.
I just watched Ender's Game and thought it was better than Gravity.

Yeah I liked Wall-E a lot, I'm also a fan of Walking Dead. For me the biggest thing in a movie or TV show is suspension of disbelief and I can't get there without solid acting and characters, that's really what ruined Gravity for me.

Seconded, Ender's Game was definitely better than Gravity and also had some visually amazing stuff in it, though perhaps not as cool as the space station scene.

I hooked up my computer to my 3d tv last night and watched it for the first time. I thought the visuals and special effects were really good, but didn't really get into the story.
I got a little bit bored about 45 minutes into it, but if you got nothing to do and haven't seen it before I'd say check it out. I watched it for free here:
http://putlocker.bz/watch-gravity-online-free-putlocker.html
Just make sure you switch the video quality to from 360 to 536p if you use this link. The video quality is pretty damn good for an internet stream, but the audio was a bit low.
